Got a question, is it better to specify which volume is hard to find or is it just the series in general that we're naming? I know for Basara, it's only 19 & 20 that's ridiculously hard to find and for Name of the Flower, it's Volume 1 that's getting sparse (shockingly so)

Another one is Emma - Volume 7 is more or less out of stock and Volume 6 is on its way to getting there.

CPM had Record of Lodoss War. TP has Kodocha.

Yeah, this is kind of gray area. Unless a company has gone under or stopped its manga line (like CMX - why Emma will be getting hard to find) and CPM) or we know by official announcement they they have lost the license (such as Tokyopop with Kodansha titles), some of this is guesswork. We've just generally been going by if the entire series is hard to find for the list itself, but you do bring up an interesting point about series where only certain volumes are hard to find when the licensor is seemingly fine and nothing official has been said about the status of the title itself...are there any more like these?

This list could get very large. Technically most of my recent purchases like Chrono Crusade, After School Nightmare, Gon, Ballad no Shinigami, Maico 2010, Monster Collection, Key to the Kingdom, Astral Project, Junk Force, Red Prowling Devil, etc. would all qualify for the list. But i was still able to track them down. i only listed the ones that I don't see myself picking up because one or more volumes have already reached astronomical prices due to scarcity.
Incidentally, the highest price I have seen so far is $999 for V1 of the Ballad no Shinigami light novel.

Also what about stalled series? Specifically on the NA side. A large number of affected manga there. From what I was collecting off the top of my head: First Love Sisters (1/2), Puri Puri (7/11), Enchanter (11/19) and Maid War Chronicles (2/5+).

EDIT1: I see that the list has *already* gotten large. Good work! To Go! Comi add Night of the Beasts and to ComicsOne, add Please Teacher. Another one that got pricey but I finally tracked V2 down (by buying a complete set).

EDIT2: Take a look at the TRSI Bargain Bin for Books for more to add to the list. From a quick look, I see Adventure Kid, Girls Bravo and Maxion. Also Rose Hip Rose and Rose Hip Zero.

Yeah, I know the potential length of this list, that's why it's getting updated in chunks. As for stalled titles, I guess I would ask 1.) is there any announcement from the publisher on the series 2.) are volumes of the series very hard to find and 3.) when was the last volume of the series published? Based on that they could go under either out of print or fate unknown. And thanks for the TRSI idea and titles!

I think all Broccoli Books in general are basically out of print at this point because they liquidated and have closed shop, which means there won't be reprinting, no new releases, nothing from broccoli books ever.

For the others, the series finished up in Japan and it has been a long time since the last NA volume was released.

Puri Puri:
V7 released in NA in Oct 2008.
V11 (final) released in Japan in Dec 2008.

Enchanter:
V10 released in NA in Feb 2009.
V19 (final) released in Japan in Mar 2009.


EDIT1: There's a separate thread for stalled Del Rey releases.

EDIT2: See Puri Puri (Premature Priest) is already on the list. Are all DrMaster releases included?

Okay, list updated. I am including all DrMaster titles until we hear anything official otherwise. I also e-mailed DMP about Enchanter just for the heck of it to see if I get any response. Weren't there a bunch of other titles that were stalled around that time, or was that the only one that was never continued after the postponement announcement?

Also read the Del Rey thread...yikes. I'll research those later to see if anything has been updated since then, otherwise I may have to eventually mention some of the truly stalled or even unreleased ones...

They released about three volumes and all fairly difficult to find now (most of the time going for 70+ dollars per volume when found).
