As discussed in the initial thread, it's probably a good idea to restart this. We've had larger threads than that one but considering that we just finished a major arc and the show will likely continue on for another four cour at least it will get really unwieldy. Now is a good time to go ahead and get this going, rather than in the middle of another major arc six months down the line.
Discussion Thread I, Episodes 1-48 This thread will cover episodes 49 onward. Perhaps restarting again if it goes past another four cour. I don't really like the new opening. But it looks like we're getting a new cute member of the core team. Someone that looks like a cross between Grey and Erza. Lucy also continues to show good taste in clothing with her green tank top.
I spot a blue-haired loli. So it looks like the reporter was not how Lucy imagined him to be. And, of course, no one know who she is. But it is pretty sad when you're below Happy and Gajeel on the fame scale. Why do I suspect that Mr. Fateful Encounter is not what he seems to be? But in any case, friends are more important than dates! I spot a blue-haired loli with packages.

New opening with lots of new characters we've never seen, as usual. Based on the opening, ending, and episode, this arc will have one new character as a main player. The episode starts with a little bit of reflection on the previous arc, and a (probably) short throwaway story helps to transition from that to what looks like it will be the next arc right away. I look forward to seeing how this all plays out. Based on what we've seen so far, we can expect some old characters to return, and for some new ones to have connections to those already in the story. Not really new ideas, but I'm interested.

Good god the new girl is adorable. Also she's Lucy's fated encounter! Lucy should just give it up and accept that she only goes with girls.

No idea why watching Fairy Tail always gets me in the mood to watch anime.
No. No. There's no way Natsu would love anyone yet alone Lucy. Go with Loke. Mira's really weird... You're going to get fat if you keep eating snacks like that, Lucy. Still not seeing it. Happy versus Grey! This is funny. Lucy looks exceptionally hot, but this is still wrong. Sadly, the cute loli did not appear. ![]()

New OP time, and the first thing I see is some cute girl I've never seen before. And looks like, uhhhhhhh, that guy Gray trained with as a kid, is going to be making a return. And cute blue haired girl has the white winged cat (that's probably a dragon) that appeared in the title card scene.
Said cute little girl pops up a few times and the show spells out that she's the "fateful encounter" but nothing's happened with her yet. It would be an understatement to call Lucy an attention whore in this episode. Talk about desperation... And I really wanted to stab Mr. "Coooooool" in the vocal chords. That was really annoying. Hopefully he fulfilled this arc's Obnoxious Character requirement and we never see him again, nor have any of those really annoying baddies anytime soon.

Oooooh, so that's who team Shadow Gear is. It was mentioned last episode, but I couldn't figure out who he was talking to when he said it.
The Lucy/Natsu stuff was okay but didn't do much for me (other than Lucy's weird daydream of how it would turn out. "Let's have 30 babies!" ... and Lucy just says "Okay!") but the rivals stuff was pretty amusing, especially Erza deciding to be rivals with a pillar and Levy screaming at the Raijin tribe. Gray's rivalry with Happy was pretty amusing too. It was a blatant filler episode, but it was fairly amusing.

Virgo!!!
Uhhhh, so it seems this wasn't a filler episode after all. I guess I made the mistake of thinking that the mission Lucy and the group were going on the train in episode 49 was one we were supposed to see play out, especially since the blue haired girl appeared there and it was talking about the fated encounter. Since I was assuming this was filler for most of the episode, it made the stuff with Lucy's father very odd. It was a sudden and unexpected direction to go with Lucy's family issues to begin with, so that combined with what seemed like blatant continuity breaking made me think this had to be filler and it would have to turn out that the guy we were seeing wasn't really Lucy's dad for some reason. Buuuuuut.... it looks like this is leading into the stuff shown in the OP, so unless the entire arc shown in the OP is filler (unlikely at this point, I think), then this is actual story material. Though I suppose they could still reveal that it isn't really Lucy's father, but that seems unlikely.

Yeah. So I don't really like what they did with Lucy's father. Him losing his entire fortune that quickly seems improbable at best. But at least we got summon porn (but not Loke!).
Based on the preview, it looks like the next arc should start in episode 52. Based on the title, I guess the groups in the opening are allies and not enemies. Sigh, why does everyone always have to look so weird...

It looks like this episode is leading into what will be the real start of the arc shown in the OP and ED. So all those guilds are joining forces with Fairy Tail to stop this Dark Guild. That could be interesting.
