Point taken about fansub comparison, but an R2J screencap was posted.

So, either NISA's materials just suck, or they need to stop running them through extra filters or processes that make them suck.

It's funny because the first discs of Toradora! were brightened, but the fixed discs were identical to the R2.

Yeah... Well, at least they gave an answer.

Grain can be a good thing in moderation.

So I guess this means that it's safe to order, right?

I'm translating their response as "oh fuck we don't have enough money to do another fix let's hope it goes away".

I don't see NISA being around all that long, unfortunately.

The R1 screenshot there is a lot brighter than the R2 - they might look more similar if that was not the case. Has it been confirmed that this isn't a problem with the player - like having Truetheatre Lighting enabled or a bright color profile set in PowerDVD for example?

*fiddles around with both images*

Ok, the R1 screencap is compressed, for one.

After fiddling around with both, the grain is definitely the same. The R1 is also brighter, which is actually not unusual, R1 DVDs are frequently brighter than the R2 version. I seem to remember someone explaining something about Japanese TV having a different black level standard or somesuch.

Anyway, the brightening interacted really badly with the artificial grain.

On the subject of grain in general - the one release I have were a lot of grain was added for the DVD is Dennou Coil.
