The ultimate problem with the word classic is this. When companies use "classic", they use it as a marketing buzzword. It's not just another title, it's a classic!

When we as fans use the word classic, we're often in reality just coming up with a fancy way of either saying "We really like this title" or "We feel obligated to think the title is good".

So in general, I was expecting Funi to use it as essentially a buzz word. Well, what really matters to me is not whether the title actually qualifies as a classic or whatever.

The main concern will be along the lines of "How will titles in the line be treated?" At the very least, I would hope for packaging that doesn't hate the discs, and so forth.

No surpise really.

Also I'm each each person has their own opinion on what's "classic" or "essential" in a collection.

Doesn't matter to me; I know what I like and what I want to buy (reason why my anime collection is fairly small).

Don't really see much here.

Or it could go like this:

S.A.V.E: Things what didn't sell that great.

Classics: Things what sold very well.

Viridian: Let's try to release this one more time.

That's how I kind of see it.

Gantz was the known titles. From the looks of it, it may be a silent label. Judging from the site, they didn't go over the cover arts very closely as some of them are discontinued or OOP (that is unless they are reproducing them again).

Those are "classics"? Really, Funimation?

To quote Princess Bride:

What you said is what the original blog entry implied. Classics = long tail sellers. However, some of those titles are highly suspect.

Edit: Oh right, FUNi has previously mentioned minimum pricing clauses in some of their licensing contracts. That might have something to do with it.

Speaking of which, the Official Site is pretty cute.

So what flavor would the OADs be? How do you flavorize EPIC?
