What makes it even sadder is the character lost out to the restaurant.

This reminds me that i need to check this show out. I somehow had it confused with Soredemo Machi wa Mawatte Iru and never watched it. I guess the manga is a 4-koma style which is great. The last 4-panel show adapted to anime i saw was Seitokai Yakuindomo, which was Hilarious! I'll give the fansubs a look and may snag this if its amusing. Is this show pretty good? The little pins are a neat extra. I do love my old Azumanga Daioh pins =) I do have to agree that the artwork for this set is mediocre. Quite a bit of white and blank space. The Toradora set at least used the space to fill with characters.

One thing that bugs me though.. why only 2 disks? Where are the disk extras?

anyone else miss the old days of more DVDs/extras? While i like NIS's artbooks, and pack in extras; They are still skimping on the actual DVD count. We are also getting no DVD extras. I remember when a 26 episode series got 6-8 DVD's and looked pretty damn good. Im getting tired of companies cramming 26 episodes onto 4 dvds and 13 onto 2. Almost all extras are cut these days as well, its really annoying. Video quality is definitely taking a hit. I notice grain, line noise and other problems on almost every DVD i get these days and its really irking me. Its hard to support the industry when the fansubs i got outputing from the laptop to the TV look better than the stuff im buying. I actualy went on a large buying spree with the sales TRSI had the past month or two and have been very disappointed with a lot of the stuff i have received. I need to check out some of the blu rays we got and see if those fare better, but the DVDs are varying levels of fail.

blea. Speaking of video issues though. has NIS stepped up their game since the huge Toradora! screw up? I got a bad copy and sent away for the replacments. Are their newer series free of the huge ghosting and interlacing issues they had then? Im wondering how the video quality is even if those are fixed

Their release of Fox Diety had a whole disc of extras. Unfortunately they were missing the extra animation shorts though...

well thats just fail then. Whats the point of a 'premium' edition that doesn't even have the friggin extras?? Giving us pretty packaging and an artbook is nice, but i have serious issues with the actual disk quality and content these 'premium' sets are coming with from NIS. How is the video quality with their releases? I guess i should check the replacment disks i got for Toradora! I never did watch it once they came in. Kinda forgot about it after the terrible picture with the original disks

They are going with R2J artworks. There could be licensor artwork requirement that may not allow them to alter them. Then again, it could be something that NISA decided to stick with.

DVD extras. The only ones seemingly missing from the R2J is character commentaries. The R2J singles had LEs that included CDs (soundtracks, drama CD,...).

Just got the set today, so here are some comments to earlier posts.

The video itself appears utterly untouched. The only instances where Wagnaria!! is used are instances where NISA made something (eg. box art, final credits, etc). Besides the name of the restaurant, everything has said Working!! including the OP. Here's an image for proof.

The reverse side of the artbox uses this art instead of a faded color scheme like Toradora!!. I think you'd like it.

On the second disc are two textless EDs and that is it for on-disc extras. The Japanese DVDs only had audio commentary and the two textless EDs, so NISA was limited for things to put on the disc. I assume since the OP has text in strategic positions, that a textless version wasn't made. The video quality appears to have no problems and looks good from my DVD player. Samples 1 and 2 for your viewing pleasure.

The artbook features a lot of character art as well as backgrounds and sketches. There are a lot of four-comas that I'm guessing came in booklets with the R2s.

Not having seen the show before, it's made a very good impression on me. I've finished 10/13 episodes so far and besides some minor subtitle errors such as forgetting a letter, it's been great. I'm happy to have ordered it.

Sounds good and definitely looking forward to my copy. I pre-ordered mine from NISA directly to get the bonus. They haven't ship it out yet.
