Normally I'd say the same, although A1 is developing a good following so that should boost its sales. They've got four shows over 10k (tied for 5th most) and all from different franchises. So I dunno if it'll top 10k but it's more likely than it would be from a lot of studios.

On the other hand, there's the idea of the following. If a person can only afford say four series a season then going from say sixteen shows to twenty shows would just mean the following. Instead of skipping twelve shows, the person is skipping sixteen shows.
Yeah, that's true. If you air 10 shows or 100 shows in a season, the number I can afford is pretty much the same. I'm doing four imports this season, which is higher than my usual three, but I don't think I could do much more than that. Five max. Or well, I say that now... we'll see what happens. I used to think three per season would be my max.

But I suppose the argument would be that more shows = more chances to tickle the fancy of a fan out there who might not have otherwise bought anything this season. I suppose there's got to be a nice point of equilibrium between number and variety of shows in a season and number of anime-buying otaku. Whether these 47 (less if you remove children's shows of course) strike that balance, I have no idea...

I'm just going to make a random prediction.

I think [C]: Money of Soul and Possibility Control is going to do less than 10k but more than 7k.

And just because it's obviously the show I'm looking forward to most, I believe Maria Holic Alive will do around 3k - 4k. Season 1 did 3k on average and I believe there is a bit more hype for this season than last season. I'm hoping it pulls a Hidamari Sketch, even if it's only by a little.

Edit: oops I meant 7k

Wow. The source material must be rather popular. Actually, it's stuff like this that makes me wonder how many series have their fate decided before they even air.
The game was well received and praised for it's scenario. That's why a lot of people have high hopes for the adaptation.

Poor SoraAge. ;_; And it was so good too.

I guess it depends on how much Angel Beats! has pushed up PA Works' visibility. Although this looks to be a very different kind of show, true.

Ignoring sales and talking strictly quality.. I think 2011 is going to be the best year for anime since 2006-2007... Spring 2007 is imo the best season ever for anime.. and Summer 2007 was hands down the best minor season.. and had no contender until Winter 2011 came along.
Hmm, I guess I have a hard time picking favorite seasons.
Fall '08 had Clannad AS (10, Top 10) and Toradora (10, Top 10). Not to mention GaRei (9), Gundam 00 S2 (9), Kannagi (9) and Skip Beat (9).
Winter '10 is the only minor season I've ever handed out three 10/10s to. Hidamari x *** (10, Top 10) Drrr (10), SoraWoto (10), and only one was a sequel.
Summer '09 was huge for me with Haruhi 2k9 (10, Top 10), Bake (9), Spice & Wolf II (9), and Aoi Hana (9).
Spring '07 is back when I wasn't yet doing season-specific rankings, but looking back at what aired then, yeah, it's definitely giving Fall '08 a run for its money. Heroic Age (10, former Top 10), TTGL (10, Top 10), Touka Gettan (10, Top 10), Lucky Star (10, former Top 10). Plus Dennou Coil (9) and El Cazador (9).

I might have to agree with you on Spring '07 for major seasons, but pretty closely followed by Fall '08. Definitely Winter '10 or Summer '09 for minor seasons. Winter '11 isn't too far behind, barring massive flops in endings for the four I'm importing. It could end up 10, 10, 9, 9.

Heh... Of course since reporting isn't 100% complete, a difference of only that much is completely within the margin of error, which means they are in essence tied.

Default 2011 03/21~03/27

Two pieces of preliminary news this week.

1) No anime DVDs in the top 30. Quite a rare occurrence, but not shocking given all the postponed releases.

K-ON!! v9
2) K-ON!! did quite a lot less BDs first week than the previous volumes, no small wonder considering what's going on in Japan and the distribution problems it all caused. We saw last week what a major impact this had on sales of other titles, which dropped significantly more than K-ON!! (40-50% instead of K-ON!!'s 25%).

But it was only a temporary setback. K-ON!! v9 is seeing the delayed sales kick in for its second week. It's #1 on the Oricon BD charts again with ~10k (9,500 to 10,499) sold, which means it's up around 33k so far.

The DVDs also ranked this week. Reaaaally low threshold this week. At least these delays give us the chance to see how really low selling stuff ranks in DVDs and BDs (PSG and Fortune Arterial in particular). Also, looks like Kore Zombie will do around 1,000 DVDs and 2,500-3,000 BDs. I haven't been paying attention to anything other than IS and Madoka, so I'm just a bit surprised it sold that much. Freezing looks like it will do 2,000 DVDs and 4,000 BDs, surprisingly. Thought it would be just around 3,000 total.

Huh, wow. Thats actually better than I was expecting for Zombie and Freezing. I would be happier if their numbers were reversed though.

The benefit of Freezing selling well instead of being an abysmal flop like Kuro Kami (sunrise you dun goofed up) is that it increases the chances slightly of Dall-Young Lim's Unbalance X Unbalance manhwa getting animated. I actually thought that he wouldn't get another one of his works touched since Kuro Kami flopped so badly... and while I don't really like Freezing that much (would rather Legend of Maian x1000 pity it's manhwa only though...) I was happy too see interest in his works remain..

Sayaka Ohara as Hae-Young Nah please! Though her drama cd seiyuu in Kikuko Inoue would be awesome too... and Jin-Ho is one of my fav harem leads ever.. easily the best of the Dall-Young Lim manhwas... KuroKami and Freezing + the rest... though to be fair to KuroKami's lead the Sunrise version of him was terrible.

Anyway Unbalance X2 Anime now! And keep Sugita Tomokazu, Inoue Kikuko, Kawasumi Ayako and Nakahara Mai as the main characters like the drama cd!

Also this is finished as well. two cour please.
