It's pretty, but the composition feels a bit uneven. I'll stick with Amazon, assuming I do import this. I already spent all my CDJ coupons/points on the Mugi waitress figure so I'd be paying normal price + S&H for one item which would be higher than Amazon, considering I'd make a large order at the latter.
I went ahead and blew my 4900 yen's worth of points and coupons on Atelier Meruru (and it still cost me over $70) shortly after I made that post, so I definitely won't be ordering it at CDJ. CDJ's picture is not even close to being worth the extra ~$30 extra it would cost to order from them. Ohana is okay, but I'm not finding the shot of Minko and ???? to be very attractive. I'm still open to ordering volume 1 from HMV though, if their bonus is good. For a nice Kishida Mel poster, I'd be willing to pay an extra ~$12 for shipping.

Ohana overlooking her harem.

Hold on for a moment before you order. Listed on their product page is a statement that says that any overseas orders will not get the poster. I've sent a couple of inquires about it to ensure that wasn't put up by mistake.

I wasn't going to place my order until I saw a picture of the poster to confirm that it was worth it, but... wow, that sucks if its true. That's weird (again, assuming its true), I was under the impression HMV tended shipped external bonuses including things like posters, so unless I'm wrong on that, it seems very odd for them to not do it here.

They typically have sent any and all external bonuses that I've ordered, so this caught me by surprise. They even sent the JP store-exclusive poster for Railgun OVA when it wasn't even listed on their webpage. It may take about a day or so to get a response, but I'll update when that happens.

I got a response about two hours ago:

I'm sure it's not the first time that they wouldn't ship a special bonus overseas, but it's the first that I've seen. At least my order at Amazon is confirmed now for the first volume.

How bizarre. That really sucks. Well, it saves me from having to make any decisions on where to buy it or spending extra on it. Amazon.jp it is.

Thanks for noticing and following up on this.

Unless it costs them inordinately much to ship the bonuses, it makes little sense for them to limit it. External bonuses are generally the only reason to shop somewhere else over Amazon.

Preordered at Amazon. Of course there's the chance the series could go south but based on the first three episodes it definitely falls in my strike zone and the animation is gorgeous. Plus based on previous works by this studio I have faith it'll be solid to the end. I'm glad it's three eps a disc.

Default Volume 1 Full Details

The official site updated the listing with design images of the cover/packaging and first box. They also updated the details about the included extras.

The first volume will contain episodes 1-3. The extras include the special cover image, the first non-text opening, and two types of audio commentary for the first episode. Track 1 will be character commentary by Ohana (Kanae Itou) and Tomoe (Mamiko Noto). Track 2 will be standard commentary by Itou, the director Masahiro Ando, producer Kenji Horikawa, and producer Takayuki Nagatani.

The first pressing will have the special artbox linked above and a 64 page all color booklet entitled Hanairo Notebook 1st. The booklet will have the opening and ending rough cuts and original images as well as a 6 page draft from Jiroumaru entitled "The Bubble-smothered New Employee Training Session".

Edit: This blog post uploaded this image of the 64 page booklet and some selected pages. It looks to have some character designs/notes as well.
