In Summary:
The opening episode offers up a lot of potentials here as the mystery of the storyline seems really fascinating as they've put Ganta on a particular path. Manglobe really makes it all work in a way that's almost surprising with the animation and music design, opting for quiet scenes for the most part which make the big scenes stand out all the more. Much of the episode deals with Ganta's confusion over events from the minute the mysterious stranger shows up outside of his classroom and that works very, very well as it lets us get into his head pretty well and understand how he views things. When it goes big towards the end, giving us a glimpse of where it may go and bringing Shiro in and the like, Deadman Wonderland becomes even more fascinating. The show has quickly risen with the first episode to be a must-watch show of the season, a season with little worth really getting excited about. This one is worth getting excited about.
