So Kurapika's identity is finally known by the Troupe.
That's going to complicate things.
Gon & Killua's backup plan half failed.
At least Kurapika managed to capture their boss.
Looks like Kurapika managed to bring some dismay into the phantom troupe.

Oh god those reactions were priceless. First Hisoka when he finds out Chrollo can't use Nen, then Gon and Killua when they walk past the Troupe members in the auction house. Again, lots of really clever thought put into all the little intricacies of the situation. This arc has come to a bit of a standstill, so we're moving right along to a brand-new one, finally focusing on the Greed Island game that Gon and Killua have been looking for this whole time.

-Pakunoda's already arrive. Guess we're just skipping right into the tense confrontational action then.
-Hah! Kurapika's realized how screwed he is. Capturing the leader of the Spiders means nothing. His bargaining position is laughable. Even if you cut of the head, the Spider will find a way to devour you.
-"Pakunoda, you may not speak a word about me to the other Spiders." Speak a word? You wording there is going to get you killed Kurapika. Heh.
-"Are you guys that dense? Pakunoda is trying to save your boss. Your friend!" Hah. Gon you are a magnificent protagonist.
-Chains? What chains? GONE!
-Change of plans. This is Hisoka's game now. :D

-HISOKA! *squee*
-AHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA! That face. "Okay let's get the hell out of here. I'm bored." Silly Hisoka.
-Meow~
-Pakunoda.
-Suits!
-HAHAHAHAH! Fancy meeting you gents here.

Chrollo is now on a quest to free his Nen. Pakunoda is gone. But the Spiders are free. Kurapika is worn out and didn't get any more revenge. Gon & Killua are going Greed.

It's not good that Phantom Troupe leader figured out Kurapika's weakness.
Seems like he himself figured out the priorities.
At least the whole hostage situation was resolved.
Guess we'll see that auction next time...

Episode 57:

- Niiiiiiice sequence there, from Leorio's distraction (hey, not useless for once) until the escape failed.
- Gon and Killua's lives are tied to Kurapika's mental state, basically. If he gets provoked and kills Chrollo, it's over. Good luck, boys.
- Hahahah, whatshisname tries to tease Kurapika and ends up having to call back immediately to apologize.
- Good as this episode is, it strikes me as slightly ridiculous that nobody else in the hotel lobby is interested in the drama playing out right in the middle of it. They're holding kids hostage, playing with swords, yelling about bosses and killing, and generally making a big scene.

Episode 58:

- Melody is just the most convenient little plot device mole woman ever isn't she?
- Spiders are about to tear themselves apart. Gon steps in to play negotiator, heh.
- Heh, poor Shal's phone.
- Yes! Hisoka finally makes his move. =D
- HAHAHAHA Oh man. He's been waiting so long, and it's all for naught. I feel sorry for him.
- Bye bye, Pakunoda. =(

And now the Spiders are done. For now at any rate, I have to imagine we'll see them again later. But for now, I'll miss this arc. ;_;

Next week... ... ...well, next week I start hoping that the reboot does Greed Island better.

Greed Island has begun. I hope it moves quickly. I remember being bored for this arc in the manga.

We finally get 100% new animation for the first time since episode 1, but the opening song is still the same. Not a different version or verse or anything this time. Considering how long it's stayed despite all the drastic changes in mood the content itself has gone through, I doubt we'll ever escape from it. New ending theme as expected, though. Definitely feels like a step down from the previous one at this point, but there are some pieces that I can see growing on me in a big way over the next 2+ cours, or however long this arc lasts. Also, Gon to Killua no Huncyclopedia is replaced with Greed Island Tutorial. Looks about the same in terms of presentation, so I doubt I'll have any real thoughts on that change

The arc itself looks like a big step down from the amazing Yorknew City arc, possibly even from the Hunter Exam arc as well. I want things to be as good as possible, especially with the continued presence of at least some of the Troupe members, but it just looks like it will be really hard to take seriously. Then again, I suppose I probably wasn't expecting that a show with such an innocent and simpleminded spunky (and spiky-headed) young shounen lead would have some of the darkest and most brutal material I've ever seen in a Jump series, and especially that it would handle it so well, so I shouldn't condemn the arc right from the get-go. The lack of Kurapika may be the hardest part at this point.

Greed Island auction!
The new info about the game was interesting.
The auction itself was pretty intense.
Gon and Killua mad about their current Nen level.
At least they had great motivation for improving themselves.
Very interesting episode.

Episode 59:

- Wow, seriously, HxH? New animation but you still can't spring for a new song 59 episodes in?
- Heh. Gon and Killua are trying to hard to get into Greed Island. Feitan and whatshisname just say screw it and steal one.
- Thinking is Gon's biggest enemy.
