ましろ色シンフォニー -The color of lovers-

Adaptation of an adult visual novel from Palette. Cute girls + VN adaptation means I'm watching.

Airs Wednesday, October 5 at 02:00 on TV Aichi.

Animation studio: Manglobe. Ouch, double-whammy. Eroge adaptation + Manglobe curse. I'm calling sub-2k vol. 1 sales right now.

Default Episode 1

See? It is possible to introduce multiple characters in an episode without relying on chaos!

For now I'll say the show has potential and I like the imouto.

Yes, the "mighty Manglobe"

Remind me, what have they done that was actually successful again?

This constant talk about the curse is starting to make me wonder. Ie wonder just how much people pay attention to studios.

Now obviously, it only goes so far. I mean the same studio can have a huge success and a huge bomb.

However even with that kept in mind, it's hard not to think that some people might be like "Manglobe is handing it? Automatic pass!"

Or there maybe other cases of automatic pass as well.

Didn't Samurai Champloo, Ergo Proxy, The World God Only Knows do well...

...or maybe not?

I don't think there's an aversion to their studio, just that they've had an unfortunate pick of projects to work on. Some of their projects that are well-liked in English circles just aren't the sorts of projects that sell well among the core audience in Japan. And here with Mashiro-iro Symphony, I don't think there's an expectation of blockbuster sales -- it's largely a promotional tool for the game and other merchandise.

In the end, it's sort of silly for people to judge too much based on the studio, because a lot of the core staff (director, writer, etc.) are brought in from the outside anyway. The animation studio is just contracted to produce the animation; they don't "make the show". Blame them if the animation looks bad, but not if you don't like the story/direction/writing/etc.

Anyway, as for this show... I liked the first episode well enough, but I think it's more of a prologue and the story will pick up in earnest next week.

Yeah, its the latter. You understand why we are referring to the "Manglobe Curse", right?

Well, that was certainly quite well produced, so there's that.

The characters are pleasant, and the setup is fairly reasonable. We'll see how it goes from here.

Hmmmm, that was a pretty average first episode for a visual novel adaptation, with no particular hooks or outstanding elements, but it was..... very pleasant.

The girls are cute and have solid character designs and Sena (I can't think of any other character with that name before this season, and now we have two shows with main girls with that name) and the red head look like they'll be fairly fun.
