This time Last Exile had excess darkness... It isn't too bad in most scenes, but the darker scenes look terrible.

To be fair Funi's stream has the exact same issue, and the problem is most likely on their side of things...

I was thinking the Last Exile stream looked too dark and I was right. The gamma is way too low which is causing the heavy black crush. The really low gamma also makes the colors more saturated and garish. It could be a problem with the master but it's more likely an encoding problem which either way Funi definitely needs to fix.

The Guilty Crown stream does look too bright. The raw looks dark though, particularly in shot 4, but I'd assume it's more accurate.

FWIW, I'm using a calibrated monitor with the gamma at 2.2.

This isn't a new problem for Funi... I first noticed it with their simulcast of The Legend of the Legendary Heroes, where it was a massive problem, but various degrees of color distortion is present in pretty much all of their streams from the past year. In most cases it's not something that you would notice unless you've seen both versions, but the 720p streams make it much more noticeable.

Well, so this is something else we can speak to Funimation about. Do you know if, when the series is release on DVD/Blu-ray this is corrected?

I'm not sure if they fix it, but it should be easy to tell when either Fairy Tail or The Legend of the Legendary Heroes is released.

For the record, I haven't tried comparing any older streams so I'm not sure if they also have this problem or not.

I'm sure this will win over the hearts of those waiting to watch the shows in a legal method. So far they've "simulcasted" two episodes thus far in the current season and we're in the third week. I have a serious lack of faith in this partnership given what has been presented.

Also no word on the remaining 2 shows. They still don't have an image up on the channel for Shana or Haganai.

Well, maybe. What I hope thought it's we won't have only one episode when they will be availiable.

At the beginning, when the birds swarm around the three girls, you see their naked bodies (briefly). Funi and NicoNico's streams just cuts to their faces, which look crummy quality (they did a crop it looks like).

It may have been supplied like that - edits can vary between broadcasters and they will have to use whatever version is supplied.
