I was under the impression that episodes 1 - 4 was done in HD, or at least that's the impression I got from the steelbooks. Looking on the back on the cases for the first 4 DVDs it states "encoded for HD master".

They may say that, but unless someone "lost" those masters, they're most definitely not HD. Upscales is what you can expect, because that's what the JP release was.

They did however go back and redo alot of the artwork and animation for Volumes 1-5 for the blu-ray, so we can hope Funi will get that version.

Thought they might have at least released these as double sets, but sounds like back to releasing as singles. Shame, bu hopefully they are fairly cheap or at least LE editions.
