Not that I'm aware of. Since Stalker is now giving a fairly absurd 2,400/day for #1, it's progressed along that line as normal.

I wonder if Ano Natsu will suffer the same fate as PenguinDrum. It's now on 2849 points. If it can keep the ranking for 4 or 5 days more then it will sell nicely, but if it suddenly drops in the upcoming days then we can say all this was a fluke.
There was a lot of hype and anticipation for it, which drove the all-volume domination of the top 20, and that kind of thing can reflect fairly modest sales if it only lasts for a short time. But I have a feeling it'll stick, and could easily be a 10k seller.

Didn't know it was hyped that much. It is a nice story, but i can't avoid cringing everytime I compare the promotional poster art with the anime. It looks very half-assed, specially Lemon and the blue haired girl, but hey, that's JC Staff for you. Anyway i'm watching this for the character interaction, not the art. It's on my top 5 anime this season along with Nise, Moe Pirates (this won't sell at all ), High School Boys and Aquarion.

Two main things, I think:
- Onegai Teacher/Twins have a degree of nostalgia power it seems. I have a feeling there are a lot of people like me who saw Teacher in their mid-late teens, remember it fondly, and are now 20-somethings with decent jobs and a penchant for collecting anime.
- Another "original anime from an all-star creative lineup" project like Madoka or Angel Beats or AnoHana... original anime has seen a resurgence in the past two years or so, both in sales and profile.
- About that staff (if you didnt already know) :
* Director of Toradora, AnoHana, Railgun, and Honey & Clover (II)
* Writer of Onegai Teacher/Twins, Honey & Clover, Gundam 00
* Original character designer of Onegai Teacher/Twins, R.O.D., and Kamichu
* Anime character designer of Toradora and Anohana
* ED by vocalist behind Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari

Being able to say "hey, we brought you Toradora, AnoHana and Onegai" is pretty powerful. Many shows come and go without much focus on the non-seiyuu creative staff, while only a small number actually use staff as a selling point.

I found the production values to be exceptional in episode one, and I love the character designs.

Things aren't looking good for it, especially with Nise and AnoNatsu to compete against for limited otaku dollars, but I guess it has a lot of time to hit its stride yet. I may well be importing it though.

They're definitely doing what they can to help it out in that regard. It's the first two-cour anime I've seen in a long while with a 7-volume count (reminds me of old R1 days), plus each volume is rather reasonably-priced compared to the norm (6615 yen for four episodes). Also interesting that the DVDs will be released in basically-double the volumes (13) at double the speed (every other week) and at half the price per volume, which I suppose may drive collectors towards the Blu-Rays, but build an interesting sort of momentum for the rental market. All in all, I think they're well aware that it isn't the sort of show that will sell to today's usual hardcore market, so at least they're trying a different strategy.

Default Consecutive hours at Amazon #1

http://yaraon.blog109.fc2.com/blog-entry-6785.html

There's an interesting post that lists the releases that have spent the longest time at #1, measured in consecutive hourly updates. The reason for the post is of course Nisemomogatari, which was up to 251 hours by the time this was compiled. I can see it pretty easily passing Unicorn (another 2.6 days), but maybe not Eva (another 6.8 days). I suppose it depends if some AKB48 video or whatever gets solicited.

*,415 2010/04/27 ~ 2010/05/14 - Evangelion 2.22
*,313 2011/07/22 ~ 2011/08/04 - Gundam UC v4
*,251 2012/01/13 ~ ****/**/** - Nisemonogatari v1
*,238 2010/10/22 ~ 2010/11/01 - Gundam 00 Movie
*,227 2010/08/26 ~ 2010/09/04 - Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu
*,201 2010/07/07 ~ 2010/07/16 - Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu BD Box
*,189 2011/10/28 ~ 2011/11/05 - Fate/Zero BD Box
*,160 2010/06/23 ~ 2010/06/30 - Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works
*,155 2011/04/30 ~ 2011/05/07 - Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica v2
*,153 2011/08/04 ~ 2011/08/11 - Top wo Nerae BD Box
*,134 2011/03/12 ~ 2011/03/18 - Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica v5

All LE BD versions, of course. I was a bit surprised that Madoka was represented by 2 and 5, not 1, but all it takes is one hour at anything less than #1 to break the streak, even if it starts back up immediately.

I also decided to put them in chronological order:
*,415 2010/04/27 ~ 2010/05/14 - Evangelion 2.22
*,160 2010/06/23 ~ 2010/06/30 - Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works
*,201 2010/07/07 ~ 2010/07/16 - Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu BD Box
*,153 2011/08/04 ~ 2011/08/11 - Top wo Nerae BD Box
*,227 2010/08/26 ~ 2010/09/04 - Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu
*,238 2010/10/22 ~ 2010/11/01 - Gundam 00 Movie

*,134 2011/03/12 ~ 2011/03/18 - Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica v5
*,155 2011/04/30 ~ 2011/05/07 - Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica v2
*,313 2011/07/22 ~ 2011/08/04 - Gundam UC v4
*,189 2011/10/28 ~ 2011/11/05 - Fate/Zero BD Box

*,251 2012/01/13 ~ ****/**/** - Nisemonogatari v1

I wonder if v5 and v2's dates got reversed or something... too lazy to go check right now.

Volume 5's dates are, of course, in the couple of days after ep 10 aired, v.2's are from just after v.1 came out.

Ah yes that makes sense. forgot about the big ranking bump Vol. 5 got. Didn't remember it as quite that long.

It has already been dethroned by some BD that came out today, can't be arsed to look for its name. It's not like this will stop Nise to sell more than 40k anyways

In other news, all 7 volumes of Horizon are back to the top 100, and it seems that Vol 2's also starting to get sold out in Akiba (lol Sunrise)

Can't wait for numbers tomorrow

Mr.Children Stadium Tour 2011 SENSE -in the field-, which is a Japanese pop group. After a year of looking at Amazon Japan's Top 100 best selling DVD's, the one thing which has the ability to knock off something which has been sitting in the top 1, 2 or 3 is often a band/group/singers recent tour being released on DVD and Blu-ay, as both the DVD and BD shoot up to the top and they stay there for a few days.

That said Nisemonogatari is still number 1 in the anime category and when another volume gets solicited maybe we'll see another bump to number 1.

Haha, they jinxed it.

But yeah that's exactly the sort of thing you'd expect to do it. There's like... a dozen or so pop acts/singers/bands, one or more of which seem to have concert BDs in the top ranks all the time.
