Spring update:
Saki Achiga v5 sells 4,162 BDs, DVDs do not rank. That's the exact same number of BDs it sold for v3wk1, though 4.9% less than v4wk1. It should get near 5k again with subsequent weeks and weekly ranking. Maybe 4.7-4.8k.
Looks to me like DVDs ranked for Achiga. Should be 4,535 (DVD+BD).

And that's just 10/24's releases. There's also a fair amount coming out on 10/26 (should I say "Catastrophe Desu!"?) that will also be in contention.

Oh right I'm so used to it being BD only, will fix.

Blah thought it was weird everything was 10/24, I clicked on the wrong "next" page on stalker. Will fix that too, thanks.

Man next week is ridiculous. This has to be one of the most highly condensed months ever. Usually two weeks have respectable release slates, but this week was very slim and two weeks from now has almost nothing. Virtually everything is next week.

Default Re: Fall '12 Check-up

Almost everything has been solicited now, most titles for 2 or even 3 weeks. All we're waiting on is Robotics;Notes and maybe one or two others, but nothing major if I'm not mistaken.

Chuunibyou is reallllly looking like a modestly stronger Hyouka so far. As of now, it's gotten 473 hourly updates on Stalker. Compared to Hyouka at the same point:
Chuuni - Average: 61 / Best: 16 / Worst: 116
Hyouka - Average: 117 / Best: 20 / Worst: 337
Obviously, one would expect a slapstick romcom show like Chuunibyou to start more strongly than a slow-burn mystery anime like Hyouka, which is why I'm betting they're on track to similar sales at the moment. Hyouka had very consistent rankings later on in its release. Chuunibyou needs to stay where it is or go higher to ensure better sales.
Vol. 1 has been sitting pretty in the 40-60 range ever since October 18th, right before episode 3 aired. It peaked at #28 in that period.
At least as important is another similarity it's had with Hyouka - all titles coming into the top 100 now and again. What's really good is that they've been in the top 100 for almost the whole time Vol. 1 has been sitting at 30-60, since the 18th.

Girls und Panzer is the other main reason I wanted to post. I assumed it wouldn't really sell much, and that may still be the case, but I was very pleasantly surprised to see it hanging out in the top 300 for a while, and now it's breaking into double digits.
It's now spent two thirds of its time in the top 300, one third in the top 200, and broke top 100 for 11 hours so far, and is currently at its best yet tanking of #89th. Exciting - could this be a surprise hit? Not yet, but if it continues on this trajectory it could. I do think some sort of "buy all volumes get bonus" thing was announced but I'm not clear on the details.

Little Busters has fallen out of the top 100 a few times already, if only barely. It hasn't been able to put much of a dent in its steady decline after the initial solicitation burst. But the show has barely begun, and I think people are waiting for a "killer" episode to seal the deal.

To LOVE-ru Darkness still has a clear margin in the Stalker points race, although it has also been solicited a week or two longer than its main competition.

Psycho Pass finally got solicited, and did put up a decent showing at first, but it's already dropped down into the #170 range. Unclear as yet how this will do.

Magi has also finally been solicited. It's showing clear signs of DVD and BD being split pretty evenly, so the obvious recent parallel to draw is Kuroko no Basuke. It has performed decently so far, considering it's split, so I have a feeling people that focus only on BD numbers will be caught a bit off guard by its final sales. Of course it's yet to really explode in sales but I'd expect it to take a number of episodes yet before that happens.

Current ranking of everything with more than 500 points so far. All BD-only except Gintama.
4,009 pt Gintama Enchuusen (DVD-only)
3,685 pt To LOVE-ru Darkness
2,348 pt Little Busters!
2,136 pt Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken
1,779 pt Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai!
1,246 pt Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb
*,921 pt Jormungand Perfect Order
*,775 pt K
*,679 pt Girls und Panzer

Titles expected to have noteworthy DVD numbers:
4,009 pt Gintama Enchuusen
*,822 pt To LOVE-Ru Darkness
*,462 pt Magi DVD (*,370 pt Magi BD) [recent solicit]

Maybe helped by this? (via ANN)

Ah ok, it's just an event ticket boost, then. Well, hopefully it'll continue and start to reflect genuine popularity of the show across the board.

Edit: Hm, actually I already had Girls und Panzer down for an event ticket so we must have known for a while, meaning the boost isn't necessarily for that... but having details of it revealed could be increasing the pace of preorders I guess.

Does stalker count sales from other retailers? I've noticed Chuunibyou has been consistently at the top of HMV. Not sure how much effect that has.

Stalker assigns points based on Amazon rankings alone. This does not take into account other retail stores both online and physical stores.

HMV is offering a bromide with each volume, a portrait with purchases of v1-3 and 4-6, and a collection box for all 6 Chuunibyou volumes with a 21% discount on each volume. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of people purchase from there due to all the goods and the discount compared to the 26% Amazon gives. Those purchases are not totaled into the points Stalker assigns though, so we won't know the effect until official numbers come out.
