I'm just surprised the first episode to drop it below 50 was, of all things, that most recent episode. Maybe it's just because the episode 6 bump was so high and so long-lasting that it all evens out. Hoping to see it back in the top 20-30 again after the next episode. It's still on track to pass Darkness in BD points within a few days.
The day after episode 7, when the big rise tends to occur coincided with the relevation of the four box images from HMV, Gamers, Animate, and Tsutaya. I've noticed the sales have been higher at the middle two (typically haven't checked Tsutaya) since the box art was revealed. My assumption is that the people who would buy after the episode either want to wait after the cliffhanger is resolved and/or are purchasing from those stores for the boxes. Still not doing horrible though.

Makes sense, actually meant to ask about store extras. Saw the four boxes and they all look rather nice. I can see that having a small impact on sales.

It is back up to 49 at the moment.

And GirlPan is back in the top 20 at #17! Yay.

I'm sure it'll drop but it was registered on the 16th, started in the top 100, dropped a little to around 200, then came back to the top 50.
That's not that surprising actually. I'm watching this site for some time and PP was always on the top until a week ago or so. So I guess Teenkyuu has it's audience too.

That sure is... I think we can forget for a 5th week for Strike Witches Movie (I think our only hope is the yearly list now...).I hope next week won't be that ugly and we will be able to have second week for releases I care for.

What do you think SAO's final BD+DVD average will be? I'm not asking for an exact number but a general window considering only one volume is out so far.

Having Vol. 2 numbers would make guesses much easier (or maybe Vol. 3 since Vol. 2 comes with an event ticket application) but if we look at the shows in the same ballpark:

41,038 - Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
39,930 - Sword Art Online (Vol. 1)
39,385 - K-ON!!
39,353 - Kidou Senshi Gundam 00
36,511 - Hagane no Renkinjutsushi: Fullmetal Alchemist (first series, 2003)
34,601 - Kidou Senshi Gundam 00 S2
34,116 - Angel Beats!
33,813 - IS -Infinite Stratos-

There's no indication that thhis volume is supply-constrained, or that later volumes are estimated to be considerably higher, so I think it will definitely be below K-ON!! and Gundam 00.

If it's really consistent it has a shot at beating FMA.

If it drops at the same rate as Infinite Stratos, it should still be slightly higher than Gundam 00 S2 and Angel Beats because it's ahead of IS at an equivalent point right now.

So let's say 35-37k range if it performs strongly through to the end (assuming Vol. 1 will continue to add a bit more, and 39.9k isn't its final). 33-38k at the widest likely range. Somewhere between Infinite Stratos and Gundam 00.

Default Averages by Studio (incomplete, see explanation)

So, adding the studios to the chart didn't take very long. But I've been holding off posting averages because it's really not a straight comparison based on the data I have. Here's a quick list of reasons why the averages I'm about to provide have problems:

1. So far my data only goes back through part of 2005 + any >10k title from 2000 to now + some earlier seasons of shows that had recent sequels. Studios with a lot of 10k+ shows may have an extra advantage because their big hits from 2000-2004 are counted while their misses aren't. This actually hurts KyoAni slightly (FMP Fumoffu drops their average by 1k), but it's a huge benefit to Sunrise (SEED increases theirs by almost 4k).

2. Late night and prime time anime is my focus, so the criteria for whether I include "kids' shows" (which generally are not expected to sell DVD/BDs), and how much of it, is fairly arbitrary, and affects the math. E.g. including just the three >10K Bleach arcs helps Pierrot, while including all of Precure hurts Toei a bit, and only including the first season of Phi Brain helps Sunrise's w/0 number slightly.

3. Unranked shows (recorded as "0") pose a problem so I provide both with and without 0, plus the difference between the two. Just look what excluding unranked does for AIC Spirits.

4. Different studios are trying to do different things with different shows. KyoAni is almost always looking for a big sales hit. Sunrise, JC Staff, or Madhouse sometimes are, sometimes aren't. Home video sales are not of equal importance to all shows.

5. I tried to credit just one studio when I saw multiple animation production studios listed. Usually you can get an idea of which studio was in the lead but in a few cases it's completely equal, so I count those shows under both.

6. Data entry errors can and do happen. I corrected two just while doing this post.

But here's the list based on all those caveats above (and more) anyway, ranked by average w/o zeroes, minimum 10 shows per studio.

Key: # Shows included - Average w/o zero - Average w/zero - Difference - Studio name

Here's a few other studios that haven't hit the 10 show mark yet (at least 4 though), but might be of interest anyway because they tend to have name recognition, for better or for worse:

4  13,454  13,454  *,**0  ufotable
5  10,384  10,384  *,**0  PA Works
4  *7,387  *7,387  *,**0  White Fox
6  *3,206  *3,206  *,**0  Silver Link
8  *1,996  *1,497  *,499  Manglobe

Random tidbit: Nise+Bake+Madoka, 3 out of 23 shows, literally triples Shaft's average (~4k without those).

Pretty interesting I have to say.

Confirms Manglobe fails... and for some reason I though Bones was a better selling studio but that's just me.
