Yes? The films have not done very well.
Yeah I didn't expect much more than this after the first movie didn't sell very well. The second movie also had significantly less box office revenues.

The rental ranking was decent though, so maybe they make up some there. Berserk fans might be older in general (since the manga has been going on forever) and fans aren't as likely to be BD-buying otaku...?

In any case, none of the Berserk numbers have been all that awe-inspiring.

Default Re: Fall '12 Check-up

Since the hot topic everywhere is GirlPan, GirlPan, and then a bit of GirlPan, I wanted to take a look at how its rankings so far compare to a variety of other shows, to get a sense of where it might land.
My basis for comparison, to adjust for the influence of solicitation dates, is to compare all shows from midnight on the day episode one premiered , to the 1562nd hourly update afterward. That's the number of hours GirlPan has updates for since 10/09 when episode one aired. If a show was solicited after it premiered, I start from the earliest ranking.

Red means worse than GirlPan, blue means better. Black means same.

Girls und Panzer Vol. 1 BD (Original)
71 - Average rank
4 - Best rank
661 - Worst rank
18 - Median rank
15,154 - Point total, w/7 days remaining
**,*** - Oricon sales, first week, not yet available

Hyouka Vol. 1 BD (Obscure [for otaku] novel)
71 - Average rank
5 - Best rank
337 - Worst rank
58 - Median rank
*8,764 - Point total, w/7 days remaining
*6,718 - Oricon sales, first week

Tari Tari Vol. 1 BD (Original)
88 - Average rank
5 - Best rank
1067 - Worst rank
56 - Median rank
*8,764 - Point total, w/7 days remaining
*7,758 - Oricon sales, first week
Note: Looks like Stalker adjusted its score at some point. It was over 14k before. I think they did this in part by chopping off all points accumulated after release day, something they seem to have done for all releases.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai Vol. 1 BD (Popular light novel)
140 - Average rank
1 - Best rank
330 - Worst rank
150 - Median rank
*8,268 - Point total, w/7 days remaining
*7,764 - Oricon sales, first week

Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai Vol. 1 BD (Popular light novel)
28 - Average rank
12 - Best rank
72 - Worst rank
27 - Median rank
12,876 - Point total, w/7 days remaining
18,085 - Oricon sales, first week

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon Vol. 1 BD (Popular light novel)
52 - Average rank
10 - Best rank
110 - Worst rank
52 - Median rank
10,320 - Point total, w/7 days remaining
19,544 - Oricon sales, second week (because of supply constraints; 16,349 for first week only)

Infinite Stratos Vol. 1 BD (Popular light novel)
35 - Average rank
4 - Best rank
689 - Worst rank
20 - Median rank
17,818 - Point total, w/7 days remaining
21,574 - Oricon sales, first week

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai Vol. 1 BD (Original)
14 - Average rank
2 - Best rank
294 - Worst rank
13 - Median rank
20,954 - Point total, w/7 days remaining
31,069 - Oricon sales, first week

----

GirlPan competes with the best on best rank, and beats almost everything on median rank (which is what Stalker shows). It has a clear advantage in most categories over sub-10k shows.

Where it's clearly lagging behind OreImo and up is on average rank. Those titles did well from the start, while GirlPan didn't start to bloom until almost a month after solicitation. GirlPan has the same average rank as Hyouka at an equivalent point, but a much better median rank.

It's also worth noting that all of these titles except Horizon (BD-only) and Tari Tari had modest to high DVD sales, while GirlPan's will be negligible if they rank at all. This is why I compared BD only.

Ehm... Horizon was (before the anime obviously) a popular LN?
I may be wrong, but wasn't it selling like 30k?

Do we have the full list of the current sales ?

Currently, there is only the preliminary report.

It's definitely not popular on the level of Haganai or IS, but 30k is pretty good, especially considering Horizon's massive length per book. It was pretty highly anticipated before it aired, and often showed up in discussions I read about which major light novels would get an anime next. It hit the top 25 on Amazon within a few hours of being solicited, despite being solicited two weeks before the first episode and stayed in the top 100 almost the whole time before airing.

So "popular" is relative, yes, but what I'm getting at more is that it had significant name recognition going in, as opposed to the unknown of an original anime. Basically the main thing I had in mind is that titles without pre-release hype are likely to have a worse "worst rank" as they take a little while to get revved up, while titles with significant pre-existing fanbases tend to start out strong.

I'm guessing you mean for 12/03~12/09 so I'll reply under that subthread. No, not yet. The current data release schedule is:
Tuesday morning, preliminary data for the prior week.
Thursday afternoon, full data for the prior week.

Sometimes full data comes out as late as Friday, Saturday, and this past week we didn't even get it until the following Monday. Usually we have it by Friday afternoon (EST US) though, and it never comes out before about Thursday 11AM EST.

Thanks for this helpful explanation and yeah, I was talking about the sales of last week but I'd love to have the future numbers as well (but unless you have a time machine...)

No full data yet available for this week, but the .zip file was posted on 2ch yesterday. I didn't catch it in time (doing so is pure luck) so I don't know what was in it, and nobody has reproduced it elsewhere yet. Fingers crossed.

From what I can gather from replies, Ixion DT BDs ranked, and Hyouka added 1,082 BDs, bringing the total to 9,419.

That wk2 is in line with the lower v1wk2 (1,062) and v2wk2 (1,032), which basically offsets the higher wk1 and brings it to the same as v3-v5 for wk2 BD total. However v4 and v5 got 300-350 DVDs in wk2 thanks to lower thresholds. All that to say, v6 won't officially hit 10k because it's missing those 300 DVDs which will likely make it fall just short after it adds another 400 BDs in the monthly list and gets to about 9.8k.
