Over 2k Thursday threshold, blah.
As impressive as Bake's BD box numbers are, Toradora absolutely blows me away. That 18.6k is just amazing.
Oh and Persona kept a much better v1-v2 drop than expected, which is good.
Natsume San holds on to 10k with a slight increase for the final volume.
However, depressing sales for a lot of other good shows this week.

Fall update:
Horizon v1 starts at 16,349, BD only release.

Tamayura v1 does 4,077 BDs, DVDs don't rank. Not amazing, but pretty good compared to others this week. Update: DVD estimate 1000, total 5,077.

Maken-ki! v1 does 3,119 BDs, no DVD rank. Update: DVD estimate 1000, total 4,119.

Shana III v1 does 2,828 BDs, no DVD rank. ...Siiiigh. Update: DVD estimate 1150, total 3,978.

Sekaiichi 2 v1 does 3,624, DVD only release.

Ikamusume !? v1 does 3,379 BDs, no DVD rank. It's a shame this show is dropping so much in its second season after only a year and as far as I'm concerned zero drop in quality.

Mirai Nikki v1 sells 2,336 BDs, no DVD rank.

Ben-To v1 sells 2,101 BDs, no DVD rank.

C3 v1 does 2,039 BDs, no DVD rank.

KimiBoku v1 does 1,853 DVDs, no BD rank.

Chihayafuru v1 did not rank in either format, so under 3k. Update: DVD estimate 900, about all we can say though.

Persona v2 does 19130/6438 for 25,568. That's only down 23% on v1 wk1 while it easily could have been half going by stalker predictions. The drop isn't even, BDs dropped 20% while DVDs dropped 30%.

Working'!! v3 does 7544/2550, total 10,094. This volume might get a bit screwed downward with high thresholds next week and not get 2nd week data. Interestingly, BDs aren't dropping that much but DVDs have dropped like a rock. DVDs have gone down 52% between v1 and v3 (using first week sales), while BDs are down only 25%.

MajiKoi v2 sells 2,916 BDs, no DVD rank. Update: DVD estimate 735, total 3,651.

Summer update:
UtaPri v4 does 5374/6826 for 12,200.

Natsume San v5, final volume, does 5252/3873 for 9,125. Even if it doesn't get a second week, the overall average just barely stays above 10k, at 10,038! And this franchise has phenomenal stability: 10,237 > 10,316 > 10,038, which is pretty much a statistically insignificant difference. It's no wonder it's going to four seasons.

Yuru Yuri v4 does 5,914 BDs, an increase over v3, but DVDs don't rank due to higher thresholds (probably 800-900). Update: DVD estimate 1020, total 6,934.

Dog Days v6, final volume, starts at 4645/1987, total 6,632, total average 7,880 unless it manages to rank BDs next time (unlikely).

Roukyuubu v4 does 4449/1514, total 5,963.

PingDrum v3 gets 4,504 BDs, no DVD rank.

MayoChiki v4 sells 3,368 BDs, no DVD rank. Update: DVD estimate 630, total 3,998.

BakaTest Ni v4 does 2346/1280, total 3,626, small increase on previous.

NO.6 v4 does 1,501 DVDs, no BD rank.

Spring update:
Tiger&Bunny v8 does 19121/1508 for 20,629.

Steins v7 does 12,820 BDs, DVDs don't rank.

Hanasaku v6 sells 6,750 BDs, a small increase on v5 although DVDs ranked last time.

Denpa Onna v6 gets 4,672 BDs, no DVD rank. Update: DVD estimate 1010, total 5,682.

Hidan no Aria v7, final volume, starts at 3148/1671, total 4,819, a 15% increase on v6, although v6 was unusually low (v7 is nearly identical to v5). Final average, 5,321.

Gintama' v6 adds 1640, total 10,650.

Nichijou v7 does about 625 DVDs again but BDs don't rank in this busy week.

Past seasons:
none

OVAs, Movies, Boxsets etc:
Bakemonogatari BD box does 22,080, already second highest in total numbers despite being released on BD already..

Toradora BD box sells nearly twice as much as its DVD average! 18,651, absolutely incredible. Grosses more than Bake due to being a two cour price and is now the second highest grossing ever. <3 Taiga! Toradora is the first TV series BD box to break even half of Haruhi's gross.

Top grossing BD boxes:
¥1356.6m (34,000 * ¥39,900) - Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
¥*744.3m (18,651 * ¥39,900) - Toradora!
¥*649.2m (22,080 * ¥29,400) - Bakemonogatari
¥*456.7m (12,427 * ¥36,750) - Strike Witches (7,011 + 5,416)
¥*356.6m (*9,703 * ¥36,750) - Darker than Black
¥*340.1m (*8,524 * ¥39,900) - Lucky Star
¥*329.1m (*9,795 * ¥33,600) - Natsume Yuujin-chou seasons 1-2
¥*322.6m (*5,155 * ¥62,580) - Clannad After Story
¥*310.4m (*4,960 * ¥62,580) - Clannad
¥*293.3m (*8,730 * ¥33,600) - Working!!
¥*248.0m (*5,768 * ¥43,000) - Fate/stay night
¥*228.4m (*6,214 * ¥36,750) - Eureka Seven
¥*221.9m (*5,871 * ¥37,800) - Kidou Senkan Nadesico
¥*217.0m (*6,457 * ¥33,600) - s-CRY-ed
¥*214.5m (*4,086 * ¥52,500) - Planetes
¥*200.1m (*3,197 * ¥62,580) - Kanon

I believe next week Oricon takes a break, so we'll see numbers in two weeks.

Default Idolmaster G4U Vol. 3 sales

Idolmaster G4U Vol. 3 ranked on the latest Media Create sales charts, Dec 26th to Jan 1st, with 18992 units sold.

Not bad.

Pretty sizable (21%) increase over the numbers we have for v2 there. Even odder since Media Create didn't have the previous one ranking even 13k, but the same source now has it at 19k? Say it just missed Media Create with 13,000... in that case it would be a 46% increase.

I would like to see what the source for Vol. 2 (ASCII via Dengeki?) says about this volume. This is really quite strange, unless we see a massive decrease in stanalone disc sales (which I really doubt).

I found it really odd that vol. 2 did not rank on Media Create since Dengeki listed vol. 2 sales at 15k or so (I do forget if that number is first week sales, though) since ~13K was the cut-off point on the MC charts that week.

Look back at the Dengeki numbers DiGiKerot quoted for vol. 2 sales, there are discrepancies between Media Create for that week and the Dengeki chart for some volumes. At least a 2000 unit sale difference is pretty big unless Dengeki got numbers from places that didn't report to Media Create.

I'll be interested to see Dengeki's top 20 when they update (currently their latest chart is 12/12 to 12/18).

Oh, I wonder if the 19k is two weeks of sales. Did Media Create release any data last week? Because Oricon for example combines two weeks of sales at the end of the year so we won't see data until next Tuesday for 12-26 through 1-08. Although I wouldn't expect the MC numbers to be out until next week if that were the case, unless it has a different weekly reporting period. And if it were two weeks of sales I certainly wouldn't expect 19k to make the charts over the holiday... hm.

What site did you get the MC number from? Maybe there's clarification there.

NeoGaf. source

The latest MC charts followed Dec 26th to Jan 1st (edit: I did state that inmy original post. I thought I didn't). Which means vol.3 did 19K in 2 days since it was released on the 29th. This leads me to believe that, like vol. 2, the majority of the sales, if not all, were pre-orders. And, unlike vol. 2, vol. 3 did not sell out immediately since both HMV and Amazon have in-stock (not the case with vol. 2 after a day or two of release)

I only ever see the MC numbers via the thread on 'Gaf, no idea where they source those from. The tracking period for this weeks figures was the 26th Dec to the 1st Jan. The G4U! bundle charted at 14, and was actually the only new release charting for the period.

There's generally three sources for sales figures for Japanese games - Media Create, Dengeki and Famitsu, all of which track over different periods, release at different times and track the information slightly differently, so they never match up. I've not seen the Famitsu figures iM@S, though (and can't find them anyway with any ease) - I suspect it didn't chart high enough.

I'm under the impression that supplies were constrained for the previous bundle, so it's quite possible that it posted a second week of sales that made up part of that difference but wasn't sufficient to chart.

Sounds sensible. I guess Vol. 2 didn't make any monthly charts or whatever in that case so those sales are lost to the black hole of unreported sales. But I'm not as bothered as usual because I already feel like G4U inflates sales, so a lower number is probably more realistic.

Looks like Dengeki tracks sales for the same week as Media Create, but the information they get could be different. Of course, my only data point is the latest sales chart Dengeki put up for Dec 12th to the 18th which line up for week 50 of Media Create. ::shrugs::

Yup, vol. 2 was underprinted. source - too bad andriasang didn't link to the blog as a source, but I guess it's not that hard to dig up.

I wish I could find what week Dengeki tracked to post 15K of sales for vol. 2...I can't seem to find older Dengeki sales charts besides some really old ones.

Default Horizon sales

I just wanted to note how unusual it is that Horizon v1 has maintained a spot in the Top 20 continuously (or at least, every time I've checked) ever since it was released literally two weeks ago. I know supply was limited, but rarely does anything hang around up that high for so long after release. It could have some pretty significant numbers for a second week (actually, weeks 2-3 because of the combined reporting) and rank easily despite the high thresholds expected.

Stalker doesn't keep ranking data beyond release date so I can't compare it to other releases, but I can't imagine more than a handful of discs in the past year have done that.
