Still skeptical whether or not Hyouka's sales will suffer because of Kadokawa's "perfect" release strategy.

Also, is it me, or is Kuroko's Basketball expected to be a big hit? Seems DVD will do about 5500, BD, about 4700.

Heard recently that the anime boosted the manga sales by a lot. Apparently it used to do around 40,000 in week 1 (2009), but the latest volume has done 140,000+.

Apparently Oricon posts daily numbers for the top 3 selling DVDs. No BDs though.

http://yaraon.blog109.fc2.com/blog-entry-10786.html

DVD LE
7/17: 10,967
7/18: *6,666

DVD RE
7/17: *4,889
7/18: *2,569

DVD Total after 2 days: 25,091

If it follows the "opening day is half the opening week" pattern, then first week should be about 31k DVDs, maybe up to 35k or so. Though it came out on a Tuesday which means it has an extra day or two over a lot of releases, so maybe it'll be more.

Nothing was added to the BD list this Thursday. Now that's rare. BD 50 threshold was 400.

Original post has been updated with the final ranking numbers.

Skeptical which way? Think it will or won't drop? I think it'll drop a fair bit by the end, but not as much percentage-wise as, say, Guilty Crown. Vol. 2 has been hanging out in the 40's for a while now, which is pretty good considering all the spots taken up by recent solicitations. I think the first couple volumes won't see much of a drop. Time will just take a toll, especially as it starts having to compete with initial volumes of Summer shows in a few months.

Yes, KuroBas has the best shot at 10k of any new Spring show. Even if it doesn't do 10k first week it should not be too hard for it to have a better first week than other shows.

Light novels too, plus very good music sales.

Nanoha 2nd A's was #5 for its opening weekend, with a take of ¥122,348,667 on 50 screens. For comparison, 1st did almost exactly half that, and overall 1st took in ¥380,000,000. Though it's somewhat expected the sequel would be more front-loaded, that's still a damn good start for A's.

Normally I just edit the initial post when further box office revenue information comes up but I found one point in the above link worth a bump.

The movie is now up to ¥157,155,300, but even more interesting is the amount of money made on merchandise, which I assume was sold at the theaters: ¥233,118,300 in the first three days. That blows away the money actually made from ticket sales. If that were, say, ¥8000 BDs, it would be equivalent to 29k copies sold.

Once again, more evidence that merchandise reigns supreme, at least for properties like this.

And more evidence I need to watch everything from this franchise ASAP.

Looks like the Amazon/Aniplex conflict may finally be over, as I see the stalker now has listings for Fate/Zero's 2nd BD box, Dog Days (again), Sword Art Online, and Utakoi BDs, as well as resurgence of various other Aniplex BDs (like Nisemonogatari and Persona 4). Fate/Zero still has the standard 28% Amazon discount applied to it, so while I wouldn't label any 'winners' of the dispute, it seems that nothing big has changed at first glance at least.

Yep, lots more information here and onward.

Stalker won't be useful for Persona 9, and Nise 4-5, but we didn't need it anyway as the sales patterns for those are well established. It won't be terribly accurate for Fate/Zero pt2 either since like 3 months of its solicitation period were lost. same with most of the other Spring series, but none of them were selling a lot anyway.

It should be fine for the Summer v1s though. SAO didn't lose all that much time, and should make up for it with a few days of really inflated rankings as all the pent-up demand pushes through the system. KoiChoco, Moyashimon, Utakoi should be the same, to a lesser degree.

DD' only missed a few days since it was available for so much longer than the other titles, so no problem there either.

Very much want to see how the HidaSketch BD boxes do. They've bounced back nicely after being relisted, but they were up for a bit before getting taken down so no guesses as to how they'll do.

Forgot to reply to this.

I'm skeptical about if it will drop at this point, I mean it got a third week after all. Will we see something like Nichijou, it going from 4,000 something to around 1700 (Was that how the final volume did again?).
