Its like that time the entire planet was turned into desert. Or the time when the universe was destroyed except for the spot four girls happened to be standing on. *shrugs*

The last episode was predictable -- the girls supercharged their powers and killed off Pierrot.
There was high price to be paid as the girls could not see the fairies anymore, but Candy managed to come back at the end. Overall, Smile Precure had more likable main characters than Suite Precure, but the ideas and themes were recycled from past Precure Seasons (Precure 5 and Heartcatch Precure). Smile Precure could have done better if the fairy-tale themes were explored better. It would have been cool it see the girls fought weekly storybook monsters like jack in the beanstalk, or Alice in Wonderland instead of common day items. Compared Heartcatch and Suite Final Bosses, Pierrot was really one dimensional that kept repeating the same lines and doing nothing else. Smile Precure had the second best ultimate group attack with Rainbow Burst in the Precure Cure franchise. First place is still with Heartcatch Orchestra with Heartcatch Precure. Starting from Strongest to Weakest this is how I rate the characters: Cure Peace: Kise Yayoi was the top favourite character in the series. Her character was explored the most in the series from her origins of name to her love of anime and manga. Yayoi was the most interesting characters as each week the audience had to guess if she would for rock, paper, or scissors. Cure Sunny: Hino Akane comes close to Kise Yayoi as a favourite character. She has a hot-blooded Osakan personality. Akane was even lucky enough to have real-life comedy duo Fujiwara appear on the show. Though Hino Akane will probably going to be compared as a carbon copy to Natsuki Rin in terms of firepower and sports hobby. Cure Beauty: Aoki Reika comes in the distance third. The majority of her episode deals with Reika following her path and situations testing her resolve whether or not she would stray from her path. Personality wise Aoki Reika reminds me of Minazuki Karen. Cure March: Was it really necessary to have a second sports Precure? Midorikawa Nao got the end of stick as she was presented as a sports playing girl with 6 younger brother and sister (Unusual for a Japanese family). Nao personality was not explored more in the series. Cure Happy: The weakest of the team in terms of character development. Hoshizora Miyuki is somehow the default leader of the group, but lacking in leadership qualities. Miyuki is only presented as a girl who loves fairy tale storybooks.

That was a pretty cute final episode, and was what I expected. While nothing groundbreaking, it wasn't unenjoyable, and it kept with the spirit and tone of this series.
All in all, Smile was really enjoyable. The characters and the off-beat humor really made this one stand out. It wasn't as serious as SplashStar, Heartcatch, or Fresh, but this was a pretty good comic relief series. Other long running series, like Digimon and the Brave shows typically cycle through tones like that, so I'm used to the shifting silly - dark tone. I enjoyed Smile for what it was. I liked Suite and enjoyed it, but I think that Smile wound up being able to pace itself better, while also balancing some personal growth moments from the Cures that could be taken seriously. Sadly what hurt Suite the most was trying to repeat the "Cure Passion" stunt from Fresh over again. Too much time was wasted on some meaningless teasing to generate ratings and interest. The thing that Suite did right, and was carried over into Smile, was focusing the episodes on the Cures and not some random passerby (admittedly Fresh did this first though). I think in the end though, Smile was a well made series with great pacing a a good balance of humor and plot. I'm honestly going to miss it.

So it became apparent that we were getting an episode per girl here, so let's do them all in one go:
Episode 40, Akane: Almost painfully feel good, but Akane is badass. Episode 41, Yayoi: HELL YEAH PEACE THUNDER HURICANE. God damn Yayoi was amazing. That totally outdid the Akane episode for me. Episode 42, Nao: ...Fucking wow. Peace still had the most badass scenes of these character-by-character episodes so far but this episode was absolutely the best so far. My god. That was incredible. Nao's look of utter, bottomless, infinite despair. And then Nao crying in Miyuki's arms at the end. So many tears. Just a goddamned outstanding episode. Episode 43, Reika: Not as OH THE EMOTIONS as Nao's episode but just as badass as Yayoi's, and better overall in story structure. Reika also comes closest to soloing, and up against by far the strongest of the villains too. Plus that sword fight was pretty damn epic. Episode 44, Miyuki: To be perfectly honest I expected Miyuki's episode to be well below the level of the others, but the backstory about her magical/imaginary friend was really cute. The "everyone saves the focus character" bit felt a but sloppy with her though, seeing as how she was totally wiping the floor with Wolfrun and didn't need it, until all of a sudden she did.. In the end I'd rank these episodes: Nao > Reika > Yayoi > Miyuki > Akane. Nao's was just waaaaaaaay too awesome, while Reika got to show off why she's the strongest Precure. And Yayoi is just Yayoi, seeing her act badass is doubly awesome because of how she usually acts.

Episode 45:
- Wolfrun this is, what, your twelvth final chance? - Full team fight! Precures, why bother with your entry level attacks? Still, pretty cool.- Yay, Princess form loses! I never liked the Princess form designs much, so this is good, because now they have to level up to something better. - Somehow I don't think I'm going to care about the villains' sob story. - Oh god this is a stupid development. >_> - Really really stupid. >_> - No, Miyuki. Do not hug the evil out of them. No. - She just hugged the evil out of them. >_> Well that episode ended up being sort of terrible. Is making the villains at least as good as the Heartcatch ones really so hard? The concept behind these being fairies who were consumed with negative energy by playing the villain roles in fairy tales isn't terrible but the execution of their "redemption" was plain shit. But whatever YAY BAD END PRECURE. Now that I've seen like 5000 pieces of fanart of them.

Episode 46:
- ...Bad End Happy is awesome. I love how Fukuen Misato is voicing her. - So is Bad End Peace. What a troll. - Haha oh wow Joker, that laugh. - I like to imagine that the seiyuu arguing with themselves in these opposing roles looked something like that Gollum scene in LotR. - Goddamn Fukuen Misato has some lungs on her. - looooool Joker That was pretty great. But I'll miss Bad End Precure. ;_;

Episode 47:
- lol Royal Candy. That hair. - Fuck yeah the initial battle against the cannon fodder was awesome. - Man that eyecatch music has never been so inappropriate. - BWhahaa, Pierrot is busy gloating and Miyuki is all like "STFU LASER BEAM!" - Hahah HOLY SHIT, they just fucked him up in the face. - Speaking of faces. Well that was great.

Episode 48:
- A giant hand isn't the most exciting opponent but um wow he just obliterated a large chunk of the earth's surface. - ...Things are looking a bit grim. - This sure is a lot of crying. - Still crying. - And yet more crying. - That was literally five minutes of crying, holy crap we get the point. - HAHAHA oh man I literally cackled out loud when COSMIC HAPPY appeared. And then hugged the villain to death. Again. >_> - Now time for goodbyes. But hopefully not much more crying. - ...well less than five minutes at least. - Decent epilogue, and of course Candy comes back. What I wouldn't have given for an extra half episode or so of Bad End Precures so they didn't have to pad this episode out so much. Still, good show, with some truly epic moments. The vast majority of it from the individual character episodes onwards was really damn good.

Its pretty hilarious how this finale was effectively identical to the end of DX3, only in that case it was twenty-one Cures and something like 15 mascots crying.
