The anime adaptation of Kagami Yoshimizu's Lucky Star spinoff manga Miyakawa-ke no Kūfuku (The Miyakawa Family's Hunger) will be bundled on a DVD with the 10th volume of the original Lucky Star manga series on October 26. The limited-edition 10th volume set costs 4,200 yen (about US$42) and commemorates the 10-year anniversary of the Lucky Star series. The deadline to reserve the set is August 5.

As with the other Kadokawa manga-bundled OVAs, this comes in a tall case with newly drawn cover art. The manga itself has a special cover, new "episodes", and anime production materials.

The series itself is estimated to run 25 minutes plus OP/ED footage. (Does not list textless versions)

I can't believe otaku-targeted anime is being released DVD-only in fucking 2013. What is with nearly all OADs still being on DVD in this day and age? Do they not realize that anime Blu-rays vastly outsell DVDs in Japan? I was looking forward to this too, but not going to get it until it's on Blu-ray.

It was interesting that Kadokawa released the Hyouka OAD on Blu-Ray, but indeed it is rare. I am supposing they just figure that DVDs are cheaper to make and still more universal among manga buyers, and it gives them a way to sell the Blu-Ray again later. I suppose they really just don't want to give people an excuse to not buy the premium version of the book.

Looking at the Kadokawa shop, the following series have gotten OAD on BD since Jan. 2012:
High School DxD manga v.13
Is This a Zombie? manga v.6
Hyouka manga v3
Dakara Boku wa H ga Dekinai manga v4
Upotte!! manga v4
High School DxD manga v 15
Ebiten manga v4
Seitokai no Ichizon LN v8
Mondaiji LN v8
Date a Live LN v9
Blood Lad manga v10

These have gotten OAD on DVD:
Dantalia no Shoten manga v5
Junjou Romantica manga v16
Mirai Nikki Redial manga
Lucky Star manga v10 (with Miyakawa-ke OAD)

11 on BD with 4 on DVD seems like the DVD OADs are rarer since last January.

I stand corrected. I was mostly just thinking of the ones I had imported or considered myself, which are (clearly) not mostly Kadokawa. So it seemed rare to me, but that was just anecdotal.

If it is indeed more the norm for Kadokawa series to ship OADs on BD these days, it does raise the question of "why not this time?".
