We hope you are all excited about this jump to mobile for FUNimation as we are. I mean come on, who doesn't want to walk around with anime in their pocket 24-7? You could be watching anime on your phone while waiting in line at a convention to watch more anime. Totally meta.

Looks like they're pulling a Hulu Plus with the paid app. It's nice they finally listened and joined the rest of the world with releasing an app.

I would feel a lot more likely to pay money for a Hulu Plus app if I paid a one time fee for access to ad-streams and a monthly fee for ad-free streams.

At $10, I'm not sure if the paid app is a sure thing, but its tempting.

No iPad app? The iPhone app isn't universal. I tried the free version and it crashes a lot on my iPad 3.

What's the point of the paid app if you can unlock stuff on the free app if you are an elite subscriber? Unless I'm reading it wrong.

Yes. I'm watching A Certain Magical Index with the free app right now. I'm an Elite member. However, according the settings page, you'll still get banner ads (not during videos), add shows to a my shows, set alerts, and have favorites. App still crashes like a mofo on the iPad 3. Video looks pretty good upscaled though.

In that case, then it seems to make more sense to just get the free app and subscribe instead of double paying unless the banner ads are really annoying.

The free app is pretty useless unless you are an elite subscriber, while if the paid app has the series they put up on Hulu Plus or, even better, the series they put up on Hulu, then it would be a useful way to watch their ad-streaming anime without a monthly fee (for either Funimation Elite or HuluPlus).

I say "ought to be" since when I try to use the free app on my Nook Color, it doesn't play the videos (yet does play the streaming ads), so until they fix that, I'm not going to part with $10.

I'd pay $3 just to turn off the banner ads, but not $10.
