HUH.

Well, I can say that I'm glad to have dumped that bootleg set a while back (blasted judgment of mine ).

Though, props to Discotek for even deciding to put out the Japanese version too. I never thought we'd see that brought over.

Hmmm... just curious. Anyone know what is the last release (series) that had a different release for the eng dub and eng sub?

The last series that got a release like that was Voltron and both Beast King GoLion & Armored Fleet Dairugger XV from Media Blasters.

Huh, interesting that the original JP version will be released in the US before Japan. An unsourced statement on wikipedia.ja says that "the master tapes are lost and that the rights were sold 'overseas', so neither a DVD release or rebroadcast in JP are possible." Maybe the latter part is actually true, if Discotek can release it before Japan.

Whichever the case, I'll be sure to pick up the original subtitled version, it'll be nice to finally see the rest of the show since I have it on retail VHS but they stopped the releases before the show was complete. I tried to watch the hacked-up dub recently, but it was just too random and ad-libbed. I enjoyed it when I was a stupid teenager but it just doesn't make enough sense for me as an adult, and I hate the sound of dub actors now anyway.

Of all the series to get rescued... I had Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura at the front of the license rescue list. This series, I had no expectation of ever being available again.

1995 flashback FTW!!!!

The series itself was a big flop in Japan that I wouldn't be surprised if Tatsunoko just gave the OK for Discotek to do a US release first for the Japanese version.
That wiki info about lost masters sounds false. There have been rips floating around in the last few years of the entire series which were taken from recent Japanese TV broadcasts, so the original series must still exist in some form.

After having rewatched the dub recently, it comes off as pretty hit and miss now. Some episodes are still funny and cleverly written but others are just so incredibly corny they're god-awful. I'll still be getting the dubbed sets, but most likely won't want to watch every episode.
