Sentai Filmworks Considers More Gintama Based on Film Sales
posted on 2012-03-18 23:56 EDT

The North American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks revealed at its Kawaii Kon panel on Saturday that it would consider releasing more of the Gintama television anime series, based on how its release of the Gintama film sells. Sentai Filmworks added that it will also consider dubbing the series as well based on film sales, although it did not specify if it would then dub the series from the beginning...

EVERYONE BUY THE MOVIE!

This is the kind of thing I've been waiting to hear for over a year now.

OMG! C'mon people buy this movie (like I have pre-ordered it), we have to get more GinTama. I really hope they dub it as well. That would be very nice to see.

I can only buy one copy, but I urge Gintama fans to buy the movie, so we can get this series dubbed!

I'm definitely going to buy the movie. I want to see more of the series. I don't really care if it is dubbed or not, though.

Q: "Is there any interest in releasing more of the Gintama TV anime?"

The Gintama movie will be released on DVD and Blu-ray and will have an English dub, and depending on the sales of the movie, they will decide whether or not to release future volumes of Gintama, and if those volumes will be dubbed. It was not stated whether this means they will redub the previous DVDs, or only dub newly-released episodes.

I guess this might be a great time for me to try out Gintama. I haven't watched the TV series yet on Crunchyroll, but I might just pick up the movie if not to help make sure that more gets released.

I'm guessing that sales of the TV show must have been borderline. If they were really good, then Sentai wouldn't need to use sales of the movie to decide whether to release more of the TV show; no one would seriously say "it's selling really well, but do we really want to make more money?". On the other hand, if Gintama TV bombed, then decent sales of a movie wouldn't be enough to justify releasing more of a badly performing series. But if it's debatable, then the movie sales might help to tip a decision one way or the other.
