Crunchyroll launch official UK site
Now available for use, including UK currency support

As part of our interview with the CEO of streaming web site Crunchyroll, Kun Gao, the company lifted the lid on their latest efforts to expand into English speaking territories outside of North America.

The good news for us is that the first territory to get this renewed focus is in fact the UK, and to complement this Crunchyroll have now launched www.crunchyroll.co.uk as their official UK portal.

Alongside this, Crunchyroll have now confirmed that their subscription payment options now fully support British currency, meaning that you can pay for your subscription to the site in Pounds rather than Dollars to make for an easier and more consistent experience.

As well as a two week free trial for new users, an all-access membership to the site is priced at £8.99 per month, with an anime-only membership weighing in at £4.99...

Well, let's see what it will mean later on. I hope for the best for the UK fans!

You can now pick UK English at the bottom, in addition to US English, Japanese and Chinese.

Woot! ??

Of course, if it works to get more UK members signed up, then that will mean UK royalties will yield more on average, which will mean that Crunchyroll can offer a higher incremental MG for UK rights, which should mean more series get UK rights. They've been about 2/3 the last two season, after dropping down to 1/4 of new simulcasts last summer.

Since they started getting sub-licensing to the UK from both Sentai and NIS, there's a prospect of that. In Winter, I think there was only one North American only series, Familiar of Zero F, another one, Ano Natsu de Matteru, that was North and South America, Brave10 went to Australia/NZ and South Africa, and Another when to North and South America, Scandinavia & Northern Europe and South Africa.

If any of those were the production committee dividing digital distribution rights, a higher incremental MG to include the UK would encourage them to not put the UK and US rights in the hands of different licensors, so now that they've broken through on sub-licenses restricted to North America alone, there's some hope of getting back to another 100% available in the UK season.

Crunchyroll Adds Spanish Subs for Latin America, WinMobile App

Via: Animenewsnetwork.com

Quote:
At its Tokyo International Anime Fair panel on Thursday, the media service Crunchyroll announced that it will launch in Latin America with Spanish subtitles in the first week of April. Crunchyroll also stated that it will release an app for the "WinMobile platform" in April. (Crunchyroll did not specify if the app is for the older Windows Mobile platform or the newer Windows Phone platform.) The company will then launch a full e-commerce store before summer.
