- Poor Sumire is dumped on the first day.
- Friends with a 100 poems, yes. Friends with 100 juniors, I don't think so. - The karuta club's recruitment drive was successful. Lots of new girls want to join. Just wait until they have to memorize 100 poems. - Chihaya has high hopes, but she needs a reality check. - The memorization test is here, and Sumire jets off with tears in her eyes. - Sumire may be in love with Taichi, but whether or not the love is reciprocated is up to Taichi. Great way to start off the second season of this show, and it looks like Sumire will become a great member of the karuta club, provided that she gets up to snuff on the game. Sumire is pretty lovesick seeing how desperate she is to gain Taichi's affection.

The current members were somewhat demoted to secondary status for this episode, as Sumire took center stage. I loved Chihaya's optimism regarding the new recruits.
Neither the OP nor the ED wowed me this time. I'm not feeling an urge to order any CDs just yet. <sigh> A week to wait for the next one, but at least the series is now airing/streaming now.

Eeehhhh.
That sure was Chihayafuru. Sumire's both annoying and entertaining, and oh god the last thing I want is more relationship drama.

Sumire's kind of annoying in and of herself at this point, but if her role is to make Chihaya jealous and turn her away from worshipping Arata then I'll cheer her on 100%.

I really enjoyed this episode. I didn't really think Sumire had enough of a chance to be that annoying, but then again I don't have any issues with a bit of romantic drama in Chihayafuru since it's always been a component of why I like it.
If anything I found a more of a humourous side to Chihaya's never-ending enthusiasm rather than how it felt a bit overbearing in the first season. Either way I'm really glad Chihayafuru's back on the air. ![]() |

Episode 1:
- Can't really tell from the OP who the new members will be. Kinda thought it'd spoil it instantly, huh. - Well maybe this girl is one. What a nonchalant break-up message. - Oh alright she was the one in the OP doing her eyelashes. She was a candidate. - Hahah, Kana-chan is doing her best to manipulate the new students. - Yeaaaaaaah... I'm going to need to warm up to the new girl. Chihaya better BEFRIEND her quickly, or she's going to get obnoxious fast. It's especially important if they're going to set her up as Taichi's consolation prize when Chihaya inevitably goes for stupid Wataya. - Lots and lots of applicants, almost all of whom are going to be gone by the end of this scene, no doubt. - Daaaaaaaaamn, Kana-chan isn't messing around. She has no time for anyone who isn't serious about this. - Everyone has different priorities. Except Chihaya, who has ALL the priorities simultaneously. >_> - Sumire is moved by a poem. I guess that'll be her route into it. And the guy sitting next to her will be the other member since he was also in the OP. Not bad, but I really don't know about these new members. We have plenty of episodes left to develop them though.

It'd be great if so, but I fear this is just the easy way of bringing them even closer, by giving Taichi an alternative.

I waited before watching this episode just to savor the anticipation. The OP and ED songs were good, though the situation with the club is basically, we need members to keep our room, otherwise just go off in a corner. Their attiudes sort of disapointed me. Somehow Surime also just doesn't cut it for me as a rival for Taichi's affections. I don't think she's anywhere near as cute as she thinks she is. Actually Chihaya and Kanade each have their flaws as instructors of newbies. Beating the crap out of them either in games (like Chihaya) or forced memorization before they've even gotten a taste of the game (Kanade) is not the way to get them started.

I definitely agree. This is one series I never expected to get a second series but I'm glad it did.
