Not sure how the hell I forgot K-ON!. I think it's just the lack of change for Clannad After Story's ED that really bothered me and makes it seem like it happens less than it does.

The model site for Eru's home, Kamo Garden, posted a nice statement on their Facebook wall yesterday.

But I'd also feared it was, like, some private person's house and they didn't know they were being used as a model and were getting unwanted attention or something, but I guess it wasn't a complete surprise, and they've been used for this kind of thing before.

I loved the feel of this episode, and I loved the character development in this particular episode. I love how they are stripping away the mystery in layers and then revealing a little more about each character as they strip away each layer. You come for the story, but stay for the relationships that are being built.

Ice cream sure makes a lot more sense than frozen treats.
And, lol at all the different kanji readings throughout the episode. Sacrifice vs self-sacrifice? The librarian one was interesting, though...pretty cool for Oreki to figure that one out. Goddamn the show is just beautiful, though.

I loved how they "rewound" from the librarian of the present to the schoolgirl of the past. Can't believe they did all those distinct drawings for like six seconds of footage. There must have been twenty or thirty... wish I had a player that does frame-by-frame handy.
Also, the final resolution of the mystery was masterful. Sekitani Jun wasn't the hero--he was the fall guy. And to top it off, the festival got shortened a few years later anyway. That and Eru's little speech about "becoming history" during the end credits made for a great end to the first story arc/novel. Looks like we're getting a new pattern for the episode titles next episode, which makes me happy because I was getting tired of "[A] aru kotenbu no [b]". |

Episode 5:
- I really really like Satoshi. He's so good at getting under Houtarou's skin. - This show is so unbearably pretty... - Houtarou is finally questioning his "gray" life. It's not really what he wants... maybe. Eru is changing him, and he knows it, but isn't sure what the heck he wants. - A well-times call from his sister leads to new information on Jun... - Ooooh... Houtarou is interested. Genuinely interested, and motivated, and entirely on his own. Turning point! - Mayaka is really, really, really cute when she's complaining or pouting. The animation of all her mannerisms may well be right on par with Eru... sometimes even cuter. She's got some of the best looking short hair I've ever seen. - Oh wow. That rapid reverse aging bit for Youko was awesome. - And now they've got the person who knows exactly what happened. But what will the twist be? - Everything about this show excites the hell out of me. Even if it's nothing more than the look on someone's face as they pause before speaking. Attention to detail is throgh the roof. As a technical and artistic production, this show is easily the highest of high tier anime. Thankfully pure enjoyment levels are danm high too. I get a little shiver at the slightest musical cue or change in tone from a seiyuu. It's just so damn good. - Anyways! Hyouka means "ices" (as in ice cream or popsicles or something?) and Youko's maiden name is Kooriyama, and Koori = Ice (though not with the character she uses), so some kind of pun regarding that? - Oh my god, high school Youko has Mugi-brows! And Mugi wore those braids before too. So cute! - Love watching her react while telling the story... and nice twist. Jun wasn't some charismatic student protest leader. He was essentially bullied into being a puppet leader. And when he hammer dropped, the whole student body turned their backs on him. That leads to any number of things that he could have told Eru and that would have made her sad. - Cover explained. And the title? Youko knows but isn't ready to explain it. I think it's very likely she was in love with Jun though, since they keep showing her wedding band when she starts to evade questions about him. - Ah damn. It was a pun, but not the one I thought. "I scream". Man that's pretty morbid. Doubly so when we get confirmation on what he told Eru. He clearly never got over it, and it affected him for the rest of his life. Ouch. - And crying Chii-chan. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww~ - Houtarou's bedhead is hilarious. So that's volume one complete! (I assume. Unless it includes some side stories.) This show... this is the most subtle show ever made. Absolutely everything great about it is due to subtleties. Small details, slight changes in mood and characters, all portrayed with such mastery that it never stops blowing my mind. And I'm so happy to see that getting rewarded in other ways - it's consistently been the top ranked Spring Vol. 1 for weeks now, and the novels have seen an enormous increase in sales (the first volume, Hyouka, has already doubled since the anime). Without a doubt, my second favorite show on the air today, behind only the glorious miniskirt pirates of Mouretsu.

-Of course sis knows all about uncle heroic mystery.
-Sis wait a m-- . . . I hate you annoyingly withheld information that should be easy to get in a mystery. -Everyone to the book depository. You know we've got a mystery to solve, so Houtaro be ready for your act. Don't hold back. -Flashback. Dirty hippies! -Pun punishment. Jun you were cruel. -Tanda-chan is a little slow. -Dog fights rabbit. Rabbit bites back! Film at eleven. I think I finally like this show. Well this episode anyway. Except for Hourato's sister's phone call being nothing except for a big tease it was fun through out. Still slow but much better because the mystery being uncovered wasn't something a seven year old could solve.
