I wonder if the Blu-rays will be 16:9 like the JP DVDs and broadcasts. Since the JP Blu-rays were 4:3 with black bars on the sides, if FUNi wanted to cater to black-bar haters and make their Blu-rays 16:9 they'd have to make their own HD masters. Which might very well mean that they'd be lazy and just upscale the 16:9 DVD masters.

Yeah, I'll be getting these. As I said in another thread, I'm anticipating a 4:3 release, since that's how the Japanese Blu-rays were released, and the 16:9 that they released on DVD and TV was just a cropped version of the 4:3 on the Blu-rays. I can't imagine FUNimation releasing the Blu-ray in the US in the cropped 16:9.

FUNi already released the cropped "remastered" DVD sets and Bardock Blu-ray. I certainly wouldn't put it past them to crop Kai as well. It's not like they've shown much concern for purists before, whether it be for the original aspect ratio, original language in lossless, or video quality.
