Default [R4 DVD] Gosick

I'm creating a separate thread for this, since it may generate enough interest.

via Madman Entertainment | cover art

  • Collection 1 on 2 DVDs (subtitles only; should be 12 episodes)
  • Collection 1 not officially solicited yet, but will likely be released in July 2012.

It looks like the second set of Gosick (cover art) is slated for an August 2012 release. The series page lists the second set with a release date of August 1st. The listing and/or info may still be preliminary since the release link is currently not fully active, but you can still pre-order it.

Just a small heads up that collection 1's cover will use the JP cover arts instead of a key visual, just like collection 2.

I'm slightly tempted to bite now.

You can see the thumbnail size cover here. They haven't updated the larger 3D version yet.

Collection 1 & 2 back covers
Discs
Reverse side of the covers

Madman used the JP Vol.6 and 9 covers as the reverse sides. I wish they had them as proper reversible covers instead of a mini posters, that way they could even use two more JP covers like they did with their CCS release.

Collection 1's cover has the main art not properly aligned with the border, which is really apparent when you compare both collections side by side. Also for some reason Aniplex's intro appears when you play the Collection 1 discs instead of Kadokawa's. Not sure if that's the same as Collection 2.

Is the picture quality any good? Anything noticeably wrong? So far it's a rather tempting release to import.

I only skimmed through episode 1 but overall it looks good to me. Nothing really stood out as bad. Dark scenes suffered a little but that's nothing new for DVD releases. Here's some screenshots:

The subtitles are CR's, meaning the OP/ED are unfortunately left unsubbed. The main dialogue subs also don't stay on the screen if there are sign subs.

Nope. By reverse I meant the other side of the cover, which is pretty much a mini-poster. At least Madman's cover for these sets are done well enough that the ratings logo doesn't actually sit on top of the cover art.
