Default Episode 1

That Akatsuki sure is one weird hero.
So he smuggled Myuu back to his world.
Babel.. interesting name for a school for "special" kids.
Well, this anime sure has a unique theme of taken kids to become heroes in other worlds who managed to return home and are now going to a special school.
Hikami seems like a character with a lot of potential. We'll be probably seeing him a lot.
This should be very interesting to watch.

*yawn* That was very generic. Kids with superpowers, girl from another world, conniving student council, evil council president, prophecies.... it's a checklist of action light novel standard plot elements and they all feel generic as hell.

And for good measure, they have the main character sexually harass opponents to show how awesome he is. And while I wish I could say that at least he's not as bland and generic as I expect in these shows, or at least not in the same way, he is, frankly, really irritating.

Nothing about Myuu's personality or how she's treated here gives me reason to have much hope for her. That the end-of-OP image and promo art emphashizes him protecting Myuu to show how much of a badass hero he is is also..... not promising.

The MC is a cocky pervert. I don't remember too many other male leads like that in a while. At least it's somewhat different.

The rest of the episode was a mess though. I'll give it one more before dropping it - I can definitely use some relief in watching anime over the weekend this summer season.

There's a difference, though it may be a very fine line, between a pervert and a sexual harasser. He is clearly the latter.

And the cockiness is really irritating. It's pretty much his defining character trait. Cocky characters can certainly be entertaining but its one of those things that's easy to screw up and is really irritating when they do. This guy is completely lacking in charisma and anything resembling nuance. He is very cocky.... and that's it. Well, and as mentioned, he enjoys sexually harassing people to show off his power. Yeah, that's going to be a real helpful addition to an already annoying personality.

Yea, he pretty much thinks he's the best of the best. But, why wouldn't he considering he defeated some high-level demon king in the other world with what looks to be just bare fists?

I agree that the cockiness is pretty much all he has as a character trait and it is very ehh, even though it's different on the extreme opposite end of the spectrum (that's why I wasn't as annoyed with it as you even though I agree with your viewpoint).

I dunno...maybe something happens that knocks his attitude down a bit?

He may well have good reason for being cocky. The problem isn't whether there's a logical reason for him to be cocky (though it really helps if there is), its a matter of of how it comes across to the audience.

Hopefully. I don't know if I'll stick around long enough to find out. Even ignoring his irritating attitude and the sexual harassment issue*.... well, there just isn't anything left. It's just a pile of anime/manga/light novel cliches. Yeah, there's a genericly cute girl, but I think this episode made it pretty clear what her role in the show is going to be, and that's more of a reason for me to NOT watch more.

The only reason this isn't an instant drop is because the week is so goddamn dead in the middle. I'll need some of that time to catch up on shows from the stupidly packed weekends, but I will likely have some time where I don't have anything to watch, at least in the first few weeks. Even then, it might be hard to give enough of a damn to try any more.

*Okay, actually harassment pretty much goes hand in hand with the "pervert" character type after I thought about it a bit more. I think what really bothers me here more than usual is how and why its being done. Most of the time, the harassment is more or less the end. It's being done for pleasure, because they're perverts, because they want to feel boobs. It just feels a lot less skeevy when its being done by, say, Tomoki in Sora no Otoshimono. Here, its being used as a display of power, to put his opponents "in their place" and this is supposed to something that impresses us about the hero. That's really, really, REALLY uncomfortable for me.

Let's not forget the Valkyrie's wearing maid outfits who faint/freakout when harassed.

Hrm, is that really why he was doing it? Seemed more like a case of, "I don't want to fight these people, lets find a way to make them not want to fight me."

Well, I'm not sure that if this is the case, its a whole lot better reason

Sure, he is cocky though. I think they were trying to make some of that come of as just confidance, and they didnt do that good of a job at it.

Heh, I certainly seem to like the show alot more than you guys seem to, but there isn't much chance it could be in the top, say, 3 or 4 of this season alone

In the real world, isn't sexual harassment ultimately about power? I know anime often plays it off for laughs and tries to pretend it's not, but perhaps they should show it for the truly ugly thing it is (even if in some fucked up way the show intends for it to be a positive). In any case, reading your thoughts is enough for me to not bother trying this show out. I can't stand sexual harassment.
