Something interesting I found regarding the transformation sequence

Apparently it was done by Yoshinari Kou, and isn't actually CG.

I'm reminded of that bizarre dinner sequence in the first episode of Nanoha.

Episode 2:

- Whyyyyyy Sink? I can see Shinku for a Japanese-ified name, I can see Cinque because official art spelled it as such already, but, Sink? I know the R2 subs for season one used that for some bizarre reason. But ergh. Well whatever, I'll roll with a third name for him. Actually maybe I'll combine them all: Cinku!
- Gahhhhh, OP gets me so excited. YUUSHA BECKY! YUUSHA BECKY! And I love Nanami's kemonomimi harem.

- Nanami vs Cinku, GO!
- Oh fuck yes, Yukikaze and Eclair vs Leon-hime? ALL OF MY IMPORTS.
- Heh, as expected, Leon-hime makes them look like chumps.
- Bwhahaha, Cinku and Nanami are just having the time of their lives and it's so fun to watch.
- There's going to be nothing of Flonyard left if these two keep going at it.
- "They just shot beams!" Oh Becky, you have so much to learn. I hope Yuuki Aoi kidnaps you ASAP.
- "The important parts are still covered." ;____;
- Bwhaha "Shitagi ga nai kara hazukashiiku nai mon!" Oh Nanami, you are the best. Also, sexy.

- Becky and Millhi are such good friends already. <3
- YUUKISQUIRREL HAS COME!
- Ahaha, Eclair family album eyectach.
- Couverte Eschenbach Pastillage. God damn I'm pretty sure most international treaties consider that name a war crime. I'll call her Cou-chan.
- Becky, you've just been adorably kidnapped.

- Nanami is too awesome. Haha, ice...water... skates? Seems more limited in application than Cinku's flying contraption though.
- Oh god, Brioche + Leon-hime. Everyone is fucked.

- Awwwww... Just like Becky wants to be like Cinku and Nanami, Cou-chan wants to be like Millihi and Leon-hime. They have so much in common. =D
- Cou-chan wants Becky to be her first! ::cough::
- ...I think she may mean it literally.
- Becky! Becky! Becky! DO IT DO IT DO IT!
- ...
- ...
- ...whatthefuck. o_O That... that is the weirdest fucking henshin ever.
- No seriously WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. o_O Why did they send the animators on a bad acid trip before animating that sequence? Jesus fucking what the hell.
- Anyway! I'm going to pretend that NEVER HAPPENED. You heard me, THAT DID NOT HAPPEN. So, uh, GO GO YUUSHA BECKY!

The first season showed that Dog Days actually does plot reasonably well, but I'd be more than happy for the entire season to just be one long running mock battle. This is so fucking awesome so far.

-Godwin is cool.
-Hadouken?
-Is this a Fire Emblem spin off?
-Nanami is an exhibitionist.

-Squirrel girl is from Pasta village.
-"She's my hostage. I'm going to seduce her." I don't understand how this world works, and I don't care. I love this little squirrel girl's moxy.
-No no. Less fighting nonsense, more squirrel girl eloping.
-Wh... What the hell am I watching? 3D tentacle porn? What drug addled mind came up with this eye searing smut? It's horribly shaded to boot. Why the burn & dodge tools? Why?

More squirrel girl! Less everything else. Never ever ever do that henshin nonsense again. Ever. I think my corneas were scratched.

Wooooow, that was one hell of a transformation sequence. That was.... amazing. In so many ways. It was bizarre and completely ridiculous. Especially the absurdly gratuitous pantyshot. But somehow, it all mixed together into something awesome.

Anyway, Becky became a hero, fuck yeah! And oh god, Couvre.

"I fell in love with her at first sight, and now I'm going to seduce her." Holy crap, I'm not "reinterpretting", that's the actual line from Couvre in the show. Then she says it again later, when its just her and Becky. And Couvre is just adorable in general. Best Yuuki Aoi character ever.

Hahaha, Nanami reaction to having her armor shredded and being reduced to her under... "armor" is fantastic. "Showing this much is okay. It's not like its underwear, teehee!" And then she starts showing off. I LOVE YOU NANAMI. LOL @ the "preview" "Put some clothes on!" "It's fine, it's fine!"

Dog Days, why are you so awesome?! I can't afford to buy to you. ;_;

Interesting. I did notice that some of the odd movements continued when the transformation finished and Couvre came up to her, but I took that to mean that they CGed that part as well.

I don't remember Couvre talking to Nanami....

Well, yeah, I think the episode was pretty clear about that. I mean, she proclaim her love for Becky both publically and privately.

If this is what acid trips get me in my anime, then Japan's animation studios need to hand out the acid a bit more often.

I dunno... I think I really hated it. Totally out of character for the show (it'd had plenty of fanservice but never like that), out of sync with the scenes before and after, and worst of all, just visually very very ugly. I never like when shows try to mix in a vastly different art style out of nowhere. I'm half imagining the animator showed up three hours before the deadline with that and everyone just looked on in horror and thought "fuck, too late to change it." At least I'd like to think thats' what happened... And unlike the totally derp concert scene in season one, this won't be changed at all for the BDs.

The only part that I think I might not entirely like is the ridiculously blatant panty shot. Despite all of the exploding clothes and stuff, that part felt out of place and not really justified by the rest of the weirdness. But the rest.... yeah, it was really "out of character", and I can understand people not liking that, but maybe that was the point. I think it can maybe be justified as being a jarring representation of how different she's supposed to be from the normal, non-mage heroes, maybe how jarring and bizarre it is for her, and maybe that bizarre tentacle aspect will end up being plot relevant somehow. Like, maybe there's something weird going on with the technology they're using and it forcefully made her a hero when she's not compatible.... or something.

Anyway, it would be interesting to read interviews about it or episode commentaries, if the BDs have them and they address what led to it being done that way.
