I had the exact same thought when I first saw the news but then I shook it off as "nah, they wouldn't do that, right?" but it's entirely possible. And you're right, Urobuchi is supposed to have a new anime airing this fall and not a single thing has been said about it yet.

So most likely, this won't be a super-serious mahou shoujo show.

That is what I want. I do want it to be mahou shoujo. I just do not want it to be grim. Sure, I want it to have conflict and an engaging story, but I want it to be really happy-go-lucky in a sense. I'd rather it be a sappy heartwarming story, but it looks like it'll be a light hearted slightly-action-focused story from the art. (that's a way too much information to take away from character designs I realise)

Or, again, might not be a mahou shoujo (strictly speaking) show at all. No reason these girls couldn't be in a My:HiME-like show, or other bishoujo fantasy action series. If we start seeing a lot of cute mascots and transformations, then ok, it's probably mahou shoujo.

...Still, Prism Nana is suuuuuuuuuuch a mahou shoujo-sounding title. I guess Prisma Illya coming out soon also influences that the perception.

I didn't quite think about something like My:HiME. That's interesting. The character designs of the series do not exactly scream mahou shoujo don't they? They're kinda just element-looking and that's about it, if you know what I mean.

Though the full title is apparently "Magical Sweet Prism Nana" and that certainly does scream mahou shoujo.

I saw that earlier in the day. I just hope the anime can keep pretty close to his designs unless he is both the original character designer and anime character designer.

I watch quite a bit, actually. I may not watch every show or watch the week episodes come out, but I usually end up finishing 3-4 anime a season. Now it is true that I have a habit of not finishing shows I love--but I do get around to it eventually. I fully admit I read (manga/LN/VN) more than I watch, but that's just personal preference.

There are also a lot of shows I'd probably enjoy but only in a certain uncommon mood (most harems fall into this category).

That's a good point. I'm not sure a classic Mahou Shoujo would be a good investment in this market, but perhaps they could be moving an entirely different direction (or like something said).

Okay, yeah that's got to be mahou shoujo. And damn the official website still does not load. You'd think they'd anticipate what a massive surge of interested this would cause.

New Shaft original anime probably directed by Akiyuki Shinbo and probably about magical girls? As if I could not watch it. I'm keeping my expectations very low at this very early stage, though. The obvious comparisons will most likely only lead to crushing disappointment if I don't.

I'm also hoping for a less grimdark and more of a fun-style mahou shoujo, with the inevitable SHAFT insanity, of course.

Looking over the pictures on ANN, looks like there's one girl of Fire elemental, one girl of Water(/Ice) elemental, and one girl of Plant elemental. In other words, they're Pokemon starters in magical girl form.
