for Mobile Suit Gundam UC (Unicorn)

Sunrise Inc. to release Parts 1 & 2 of historic anime on DVD in North America,
August 20, 2013.

GRIMES, Iowa, May 14, 2013 – Anime producer and distributor Right Stuf, Inc. is excited to announce a DVD distribution deal with SUNRISE Inc. for Mobile Suit Gundam UC (Unicorn).

Mobile Suit Gundam UC will be released by Sunrise Inc. and distributed by Right Stuf, Inc. on DVD in North America, beginning in August 2013. Right Stuf's President and CEO Shawne Kleckner said, "The Gundam franchise is one of the most popular and successful mecha story arcs in anime history for good reason and Mobile Suit Gundam UC continues that legacy. It's an honor to work with Sunrise to help bring this series to conclusion for our North American fans."

Mobile Suit Gundam UC is based upon the best-selling novel by Harutoshi Fukui (Aegis). These seven OVAs were originally released on Blu-Ray in Japan beginning in 2010 with the final release of the series scheduled for Spring of 2014. It features theatrical quality animation and the entire series is directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi who is known for directing “Hunter x Hunter” and “Le Chevalier D’Eon”. Yasuyuki Muto is the writer and music is provided by the talented Hiroyuki Sawano. The DVD series will be released over four volumes. Each volume will contain two one hour OVAs per volume with the exception of Part 4, which will feature OVA 7 and additional extras. Sunrise’s Director Masayuki Ozaki said, “We are extremely pleased that "Mobile Suit Gundam UC," which Sunrise considers one of its most important titles, will now be fully available on DVD for North American fans. We look forward to sharing this exciting series with you, all the way through the final episode.”

My guess is that is probably something from the 20th century given the trend, and I am thinking it is for something vintage that was never licensed. Given their willingness to license just about anything that's under the radar that I don't see it being anything recent.

Perhaps a blu-ray license? However unlikely, I'm interested to see what their next license will be. I've picked up Utena, Nadesico and will definitely be getting Space Adventure Cobra when that comes out, and I'm sure this will continue the trend of retro-classics, or perhaps even a modern-classic if they're feeling daring.

Usual wishlist (varying degrees of possibility to impossibility)

-Legend of the Galactic Heroes
-Cardcaptor Sakura
-Gunbuster (though that may be in Discotek's hands already)

They find it cost-prohibitive to do, so it is extremely unlikely they will do a BD unless they have high hopes for selling it.

I definitely wasn't expecting that. I guess with Bandai Visual selling the Blu-rays through TRSI, it's not that surprising that they'd form a connection and be able to work this out. I've gotten all of said Blu-rays as they've come out, so this doesn't do anything for me, but I'm glad to see that people who can't play Blu-rays or don't want to have to pay that much for each episode will have this option.

More importantly, though, Bandai is letting a completely unrelated American company have Gundam! TRSI has never really gone after a series right as it's started, so hopefully it won't be limited to them, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.

EDIT: Hmm... so it's really just a distribution deal. Maybe this doesn't bode as well for future Gundam titles as I had hoped.
