Chipboard can flex inward like that when the shrinkwrap is too tight. I've had boxes bending like that until I cut or removed the wrap.

Whether it's actually chipboard, I don't know, nor do I care.

Madoka boxes incredibly flimsy? They just used a softer outlay or whatever it's called. Boxes themselves are quite solid.

I have to agree with Seijin here, the box looked flimsy to me and that was incredibly disappointing.

Yeah, well incredibly flimsy is too harsh. Like WTK said we're not talking about the old MB boxes here which is basically just paper. The Madoka boxes aren't meant to be thrown around and is a hell of a lot more sturdy than very, very many other so-called boxes. It's not like it's going to break apart just by looking at it which incredibly flimsy would indicate.

Guess it's each to his own when it comes to the definition of sturdy.

But yeah, if this DVD set doesn't come in a chipboard box then I will be very dissapointed.

Well, what I really think is: "It was incredibly flimsy for the price we paid for it"

There was a lovely, sturdy box (well, the replacement one, anyway ^^; ) available about two years ago. This new one is significantly cheaper, so I don't expect it to be nearly as good.

If it's expensive you just handle it with more care! Whatever type of box is used, the cost per unit is too small to make a notable price difference anyway. It's not like.... $80 -> cardboard = yaaaaaay while $75 -> paper box = yaaaaaaay just because you paid a little less. Everyone would prefer a cardboard box whatever the price is.

While the packaging and stuff look nice, the flimsy box makes it looks like a bigger eye sore than it should be if you asked me about it.

It's time to graduate from here. But there's still some business left.
The only thing better than anime is sports. Get hit hard and you got JACKED UP! Or else it's a C'mon Man!

My point was more, since I paid more for it, my expectations of getting a cardboard box were way higher compare to if I had paid 50$ for the whole series.
