Edit: based on the twitter comment, I think we can give this its own thread. We do not know what it will be yet, but it'll be something at least, not only a rebroadcast of the series.
--------- http://yaraon.blog109.fc2.com/blog-entry-15335.html I generally prefer to start new threads for sequels, but I don't want to do something so visible if it's jumping the gun. If this pans out, I'll split it into its own thread. So there's a CM for Chuu2 that says "契約更新" or "contract renewed", presumably as in the Dark Flame Master or Jaoushingan sort of contract. The hope/assumption for a lot of people is that it's indeed talking about a second season, but also announced is a rebroadcasting on BS-11 and "contracted renewed" could relate to that. but I don't know if the CM and the BS-11 announcements are one in the same, or separate. If this is referring to a second season... I'm not sure what I'd think about this getting a sequel. The main reaction would be "fuck yeah take all my money" because I'm sure it'll be great no matter what they do, but really what would they do? It's weird because as much as I love the show I do think the last episode or two covered too much ground and the show could have been a 10/10 instead of a high 9/10 if it had maybe 3 more episodes. So of course there's more to cover, right? Well... I dunno? The whole struggle with Rika and her chuunibyou was dealt with, even if somewhat too quickly. What would a sequel be like? It seems like they could flesh out the existing story with more "and this is what happened after" but is that really sequel-y? Unless... CHUUNIBYOU DEKOMORI-HEN! ...in my dreams. ;_;

The original novel seemed like it would be a one-shot and yet it had a sequel that worked even better than the first one (IMO), so it's quite possible to top it. As long as we get one episode where Nibutani gets knocked back into being "Mori-summer" for the majority of the episode, I'll be pleased. There's much more they can do to emphasize the comedic aspects and possibly introduce the last remaining novel-only character in the latter half. It's easily do-able.

Might just be an OVA of some sort but it almost has to be some sort of anime at least. A TV sequel would also do away with my theory that it would be a while before we see another TV sequel from KyoAni (last one being K-ON!! in 2010).

A sequel? I sure want that. Introducing more characters? I want that too.

I'm only very mildly excited about this. My personal problem with Chu-2 was their rushed transition between the different genres/phases of the show (from "slapstick" to "parent issues" to "heartbreaking drama" to "romance"). I strongly feel it would have benefitted a lot given more time to develop these shifts. Especially the ending didn't work on an emotional level for me because of this.
So if they're going back now, i can't help but wish they'd have invested this energy and resources in the original show instead of whatever comes now. This is just my opinion though and i do not wish to offend anyone. |

This made my day.
Really looking forward to whatever it will be (please be a TV anime, please be a TV anime...).

My own take is that the shift to drama was telegraphed well enough that I didn't find it out of place, and at its height (episode 11) it produced the absolute best material of the entire series, and one of the best scenes of all of 2012 (Shinka consoling Dekomori). My own scoring would look at three elements. Comedy, for the slapstick and chuu2 stuff. Drama for the character arcs and family issues. Romance for the relationship and eventual conclusion. Each of these would get two metrics (execution and timing/pacing). Comedy gets an A+/A+, drama gets an A+/A-, and romance, which is the phase the ending was part of, gets an A/B. The romance and drama had suuuuch good memorable moments (Yuuta/Rikka was one of my top hetero couples of 2012), but would have been even better with more time to play out. So I totally agree with the idea that it'd be awesome to take whatever extra animation runtime we might get with this new project and go back in time to give it to the original. (Too bad we can't get more 15-16 episode shows... and when we do the final eps tend to be really delayed.) The only disagreement is on how critical it is to an evaluation of the show.

Well damn, if it's another season I sure would've rather it just be two-cour from the beginning. When it ended I was wishing it had an extra cour and didn't have to have such a rushed ending, because even with that it was a damn good show. And after seeing Tamako Market (well, I haven't watched the final episode just yet), I can be sure I would've rather had another cour of Chuunibyou. With KyoAni doing new show after new show lately, I honestly wasn't expecting a sequel to any of said new shows since none of them became smash hits like Haruhi or K-ON! (although at least this did a lot better than Nichijou or Tamako Market so far), so I was very disappointed that Chuunibyou only got one cour while Hyouka got two.
But if we get more now, especially if it actually ends up being another full TV season, I'm pretty happy with that possibility. Sure, I'd rather get another season of Haruhi, I'd rather they snatch up Little Busters! from J.C. Staff or either start on Rewrite or wait for there to be no other Key anime coming out, etc. But I wasn't realistically expecting any of that at this point, and while, as I said, I wasn't expecting a sequel period, much less to one of these shows that didn't quite make the splash that some of their properties have, this makes a sequel to this a lot more likely. So yeah, I'll take that. I was assuming it was Ishihara's turn to direct the next series anyway, which I'm always ready for, and it so happens that any of these possibilities would fall under that; I just assumed that another new title was much more likely at this point.

I sure would have like it to be two-cour from the start as well. This show would have been even better if they were able to take more their time until the end. Anyway, I really enjoyed the show (9/10) and I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever they will give us a lot.
