Name reversal is quite annoying, but it is a pretty standard practice in most offical subs these days. By memmory The Fate/Zero BD boxes did is as well.
So when a character would say Kiritsugu Emiya, the subs would say Emiya Kiritsugu...
It is kinda annoying because you are hearing how the characters pronounce the name and then, you are reading it differently... But its something i have gotten used to and these days i think i automatically just read the line in my head the way its spoken. Once i hear it, my head just seems to automatically change the the name order back around to how its spoken in the dialogue.

What really hurts my head is when they list the romaji under the kanji credits backwards. My brain is used to seeing that like furigana and it is just plain wrong to see them reversed.

I guess it could be worse... The dubs for Hikaru Ichijou could say Rick Hunter and for Misa Hayase they could say Lisa Hayes. Or Gally could become Alita because they thought Battle Angel Gary sounded stupid even though the original title has neither battle nor angel in it or her name. Or... they could take the name Yamato off the battleship because of a carrier by that name... The '70s, '80s and '90s were much worse.

While true, it's not a very good excuse. But at least things are getting better, evidenced above all with the majority of Crunchyroll subtitles (at least the ones they do in-house).

Orders placed for all 9 volumes @ HMV to get this box.

I really like the HMV boxes I've seen samples of so far (Chu2koi & Litbus) because it's not 80% fan service like the Gamers and Animate boxes. Not that I don't love the Inu x Boku and Haganai boxes from Gamers because even though they're almost extreme, they're awesome. For stuff like Maoyuu on the other hand, where the Gamers box will obviously just be a gigantic picture of Maoyu's tits, it just doesn't fit.

I'm pretty sure I'll end up getting Tamakoma from HMV as well because they're cheaper than the other options. Litbus, for example, is only 500 yen more per volume compared to Amazon, while it's 2-3k more at Gamers/Animate. It's the same with Chu2koi and Tamakoma as well, but Vividred is at MSRP (BD's only) for some reason, but I hope that's only temporarily.

I turned the subs on for a moment and while they aren't as close to literal as I prefer they aren't bad.

Loved disc 1! The running fight gags are great. Rewatchable stuff for sure. Looking forward to disc 2 arriving in the next week or two.

Apparently 11k sales might not be enough to get a 2nd season to animate Refrain. How can they not be happy with 11k sales with next to no budget?

Granted, 11k Vol. 1. They might be seeing a drop in preorders for later volumes - though I don't expect that personally. I dunno. This could be a downside of Warner being the distributor maybe? They aren't usually an anime distributor (though they've done some) and thus might have unreasonably high expectations?

Or maybe it's just an awkward way of trying to convince people on the fence to buy it. I've never felt that approach is good marketing, but who knows.

Well, the whole quote ends with him saying that "that's just a joke, though", so I'm not sure that we can take it all at face value (which the blog points out). It's quite possible that it isn't selling according to some internal expectations, but that doesn't mean they're necessarily losing money on it either. I'm also not so convinced that Refrain is really in jeopardy either, since they've basically already said it was coming. I do agree they they probably want to keep the pressure up for people to keep buying (and not just say "oh, it sold well enough; I don't need to keep on buying it"), since they're as aware of the drop-off trend as we are.

(And I do question the "next to no budget" point, since we don't actually know how much they spent. The animation itself is only one part of the overall production cost. They certainly spent quite a bit on promotion, for example.)

I guess they would have hope for this to sale around what Kanon (18,170), Clannad (24,808) or Clannad After Story (19,883) did...
