Somehow, Kud's mother looks younger now than she did in the flashback.

- What an opening scene between the two sisters. I wonder what the truth about the egg thing is.
- So, Komari and Rin are going to Haruka, while Kud seems to care about Kanata. Since she is her roommate… - And here we have it, the Kud’s perspective about why Kanata is acting that way. - So that’s the reason Kanata told Haruka she can’t touch eggs… - Haruka decided she would go and talk to Kanata. - For Kanata, what is important more than anything, is that Haruka is her sister. - And from Kanata we learn how bad, cruel the family is… - And both sisters reconcile… - Kanata decided to leave that family… - In the end, Haruka doesn’t want to know who her real father is, it’s not important anymore for her. Well, I love the arc a lot, but I felt this was rushed… Would have prefer quite a lot for them to take one more episode to close this.

They spelled Tebwa differently before, right? (Tebua?) When I saw that, I figured it was probably because it was written somewhere in the episode, and I was right. I wonder if that image wasn't in the visual novel, or if the translators just didn't look into it quite so deeply.
I wonder if there are any Tebwan(?) woman who don't look pre-pubescent. Looks like things are going to get really depressing next time.

- It’s so cute how Kud reads English.
- Nekomimi Rin! - Haruka will be there until the ship sinks. We can count on her. - How could they???? How could Kud’s classmates do that to her? How could they? - Anego saves the day! ARIGATO! - Kud has a unique hobby. - Without a time limit, Kud would be way better at exams. Cancel all time limits! - And they all pretend to have failed their exam just for Kud! Haruka was the first. - Kud’s smile! Adorable! Kud is so cute and adorable!

Episode 22:
- Probably the only thing worse for Kud than having her mother immediately pronounced dead is to go days and days without information. And goddamn, not only did the rocket blow up, and set half the island on fire, it's probably also radioactive. If mom is alive, she's in a rather bad way. - The character art is extra mediocre in this episode. I don't think the show looks quite as bad most of the time as some say, but this episode is clearly getting there. Everyone is kinda blobby and off-model. Bleh. Get it together, JC Staff. There's only a few episodes left. And seeing as how I doubt they'll get an animation budget increase (less if anything, since this isn't some 20k smash hit) for Refrain, well... - Poor Kud. She's dangerously down on herself. - Hanakana classmate! - Riki I'm not sure you should sort through someone's trash... Not a bad episode or anything, but it didn't really grab me the way I hoped it would, especially given how tough the subject matter is. I still like Haruka's arc much more. But uh, next episode is going to go in a rather odd direction. I guess Kud meant "prison" literally... also how exactly are the Little Busters planning to get to Tebwa?

That was about the last plot I'd expect from an arc of a Key VN. In fact, just having everything going on absent from the protagonist seems strange for a visual novel route in the first place.
So I guess the final three episodes will get back to that "main plot" that's been teased, and maybe focus more on Rin before Refrain?

...Well this sure took an extremely dark turn all of a sudden...
I mean, this is not the worst I've seen from Key, (having played Planetarian kind of makes anything else seem mild by comparison,) but... Even having seen the CGs from the game, I did not think that the shots of Kud hanging half-naked chained up in a cave would actually happen... I just assumed it was some sort of symbolism... Also that situation resolved itself far too easily. I mean, I can accept the blatant magic-aspect of it, that's hardly any more unbelievable than... whatever was up with Midori... but just cutting straight from Kud getting out of that cave, to the entire situation being completely resolved, Kud having had a touching reuinion with her mother that we didn't even see, and her coming back to Japan and all is well... It's like they came up with this entire scenario, then realized halfway through writing it that "You know what? This is way too dark!" and then just cut it off right there and slapped a standard happy ending to it that honestly, the more I think about it, the more out-of-place it seems. Pros for one thing though, they did fix my very minor nitpick from the end of Mio's arc... Namely, they didn't cut off the ending-theme before it got to the best part.

I expected some grimdark, but I didn't expect Kud to be chained naked to a goddamned cavern wall.
That's some pretty damn good Russian. Better than English in this show. Holy magical object transfer, batman! And we don't get any kind of reunion between Kud and her mother. Just a flashback? Next time, it's Rin's turn! What kind of grimdark awaits her?
