Default [TRSI] Introducing LUCKY PENNY & A Renewed Focus for NOZOMI ENTERTAINMENT

Introducing LUCKY PENNY & A Renewed Focus for NOZOMI ENTERTAINMENT

Following the acquisition announcements, Kleckner introduced Lucky Penny Entertainment, a new Right Stuf studio-label that will be dedicated to releasing high-quality and budget-friendly editions of both anime fan favorites and niche titles. The first series to be released under the Lucky Penny label will be Ristorante Paradiso, Hyakko and Aoi Hana: Sweet Blue Flowers. For more information about Lucky Penny and its upcoming releases, visit www.luckypennyent.com.

Nozomi Entertainment will now serve as Right Stuf’s signature line, with a renewed emphasis on releasing collectors’ editions of critically acclaimed and notable series. New Nozomi acquisitions will be released first as limited-edition sets with collectors’ art boxes and other premium features and/or content, such as those included with the limited-edition Revolutionary Girl Utena and Martian Successor Nadesico Complete Collection DVD box sets. For more information about Nozomi Entertainment and its releases, visit www.nozomient.com.

A little confused about the specifics of each label, but it's an interesting development. If they can continue to produce deluxe editions of the stuff they would have gotten anyway, and also license much more niche stuff that no one else might, I can't say there's anything wrong with it. TRSI is mostly just a store to me, though. Utena is the only thing I own from them at this point.

As for me, this is not a really good news... since I'm a collector knowing that now only a X part of what TRSI license will get at LE treatment is bad news.

Sometimes when we look to pick up a title, there are limited things we can use as value-adds, this may be due to licensor restrictions, age, etc. Think of the Nozomi label as our "premium" criterion-esque label, and Lucky Penny as our "standard" label. We aren't looking to compromise quality or slap out crap, we will still treat ALL of our releases with care, was just looking to create a distinction between releases.

Here's what I'm thinking what the split means.

Lucky Penny - The dvd is what you get. This is the standard release label, sort of like Animework's Squid Girl or Sentai's Clannad.

Nozomi - for series that deserves a special box and other physical extras.

Disclaimer - the following titles are only examples. They are only titles that I believe would fit for the label. This is not news, just an example.

Possible titles for Lucky Penny: Minami ke or Mayoi Neko Overrun.

Possible titles for Nozomi: Sailor Moon or Saint Seiya.

@ Hrld Lucky Coin? You're making up a label now. It's Lucky Penny (Lucky Penny Entertainment to be exact).

That is an interesting move on the part of RSI, kind of like how Funimation has its Classics line and S.A.V.E. line (although neither have premium packaging, just one of them avoids the ugly lime green stripe and that they are for re-releases). It will be a little bit hard keeping up with this.

It's time to graduate from here. But there's still some business left.
The only thing better than anime is sports. Get hit hard and you got JACKED UP! Or else it's a C'mon Man!

Dear Mr. Kleckner,
How about trying to get some of your old VHS licenses back to release on DVD? Ai City and Leda instantly come to mind. I have the Jp Ai City DVD, it's a great remaster slightly ruined by Pioneer's (they distributed for Toshiba) cheapness of using DVD-5's for so many movies and OVAs they released between 2000-2003. Leda is wonderful! It truly deserves a release on DVD!! The Jp version is too damn expensive to buy and for the love of the anime god's, PLEASE license Windaria!!!! I am hoping and hoping that Victor/Flying Dog will release Windaria on BD one day soon but I will not hold my breath. Toshiba's BAOH remaster would be nice too How about Dream Hunter Rem or Dream Dimension Hunter Fandora?

I would much rather a special edition of Windaria and Leda though, they are true classics and deserve it.
