Bah, horrible news, wish Funimation would have gotten it. The only positive spin would be if they released some really nice special editions like Madoka. But if it is priced like Fate: Zero, it will be another anime I watch on Crunchyroll and never own. Plus, this means it wont likely have a dub, and I tend not to purchase sub-only releases aside from more niche products from Nozomi/Lucky Penny. It is such a shame when a potentially more mainstream anime goes the sub-only, Japanese-pricing route.

Y'know, if Madoka got dubbed odds are good this will too. It doesn't involve heavy wordplay in Japanese like Bakemonogatari.

Why the fuck are people comparing this to Fate/Zero?

Fate/Zero's sets were directly imported from Japan, so you would be quite literally paying the Japanese prices for the sets with it.

All of AniplexUSA's non-import releases don't even come close to that level of pricing. Not to mention, considering SAO's Japanese singles don't include English subs, there's no way it will get a Fate/Zero release pulled on it anyways.

It must be dubbed for me to even consider buying it for more then $40. I would be happy if it gets a release like Durarara!!. Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a little pricey but at least it has a dub.

A limited Edition means nothing to me if an english dub is not on the disk like Blue Exorcist, Oreimo, Garden of Sinners , Bakemonogatari , and Fate/Zero

Fate/zero and the original Kara no Kyoukai release were imports. Not Limited Editions. Do not mix the two up.

I kind of find it a little insulting to release and anime in north america without a dub and slap an Limited Edition sticker to it, an sometimes they cost many times more then other animes that has an english dub. NIS America is famous for this also.

It's kind of insulting to call the Japanese version inadequate to purchase, too.

Also you're wrong. Releasing titles sub only/imported titles is much cheaper than spending $100,000+ to dub 13 episodes of an anime. Printing a bigger box and a little book isn't all that cost heavy when you don't have many titles and have a limited print run.

I see what your saying but I don't speak or want to learn Japanese, you spend all your time reading the bottom of the screen and miss tons of whats going on in the anime, so in a way yes the Japanese version is inadequate to purchase.

If it costs $100,000+ less not to dub 13 episodes of an anime, shouldn't the prices be far less then animes that have an english dub?

They have to pay licensing costs, translation costs, production costs. And then a percentage of profits also go back to the licensor. There's a reason shows like Bakemonogatari cost a pretty penny, becuase they also cost AoA a pretty penny to be made available to english speakers.
Look, if you have issues with the way AoA have released their series' thus far, that's up to you. But at least wait to see how much these new aquisitions will cost you before you start complaining about the price.
