Avatar: Justin Chatwin's Goku, from DragonBall: Evolution Thanks Sentai/Section 23 for picking up Gintama, the product you'll put out will satisfy many, and hopefully get the franchise some new fans. Sadly, I can't support that kind of release at this time. |

An interesting pick-up. I wonder what other former Urban Vision licenses they will be interested in (particular ones that didn't get DVD treatment).
EDIT: here is the list of former Urban Vision licenses that are unlicensed.

Tekkaman Blade II, the Vampire Hunter D movies and the Gatchaman OVA could use and benefit from a good Discotek release. Heck, they could even bank on name recognition in D's case, given that Toyoo Ashida also directed the FOTNS TV series and movie.
As for Polymar itself, I'm not really interested in that show that much so it's a pass from me.

That's a rather curious pickup by Discotek.

I am waiting for Gatchaman to be announced next and the 3 90's Tatsunoko OVA "updates" will be complete. I have the Urban Vision DVDs of Gatchaman and Tekkaman Blade II, both are 2 of the worst DVDs I have ever seen. I have the Japanese Tekkaman Blade DVD "Crystal Box" and being a King Records release (and a very early one at that), the Japanese version didn't look great either but the UV disc was on a different level of awful. It will be interesting to see how the Discotek disc turns out for Tekkaman Blade II.
Out of that Urban Vision list I can certainly see them releasing Goku, Twilight of the Dark Master, BioHunter and Psycho Diver simply because they are all Toei releases and they seem to have a good relationship with them. Wicked City seems certain to me after releasing Demon City Shinjuku, unless the remaster license is more expensive. It would be nice to have The Cockpit available to an English audience once more too. I would love to see them get their hands on that Vampire Hunter D remaster and release it. The Italian Yamato Video one that is, I am not sure what the French Kaze release was like. I am still hoping Yamato Video will release it on BD as they did for Venus Wars. I wish Discotek would release that on BD too. I have read there was some speed problems with the Italian BD so I did not buy it. |
