Manga Entertainment acquires Highschool of the Dead
Zombie anime coming to the UK in 2011

October 10th 2010 has been slated as the day for some new license announcements from Manga Entertainment for a while now, so here's the first of them for you - The company has now confirmed that they have licensed Madhouse's Highschool of the Dead anime, slated for a 2011 release in the UK.

Given the title, it probably goes without saying that the twelve episode series which only recently finished airing in Japan involves a zombie apocalypse, and follows a group of high school students as they fight for survival in its wake.

Manga's current plans are to release the series on both DVD and Blu-Ray with a June or July 2011 timeframe in mind, and with the company working with Sentai Filmworks on the Blu-Ray release...

We are planning a June/July 2011 DVD and BD release. Hope to work with #Sentai on the BD.

Well, it was only a matter of time before a UK company picked this up. Considering the show is so new and animated in HD, I can't see Sentai not doing a bluray.

BTW, according to a baner at tha TAN booth at NYAF, the dub will be premiering in January, though that likely means on VOD.

Interesting. I hope they can work out a Blu-ray distribution deal similar to the one with Funimation, so we can get UK releases of stuff like Ghost Hound and Xam'd, and other future Sentai titles.

Xam'd is getting a BD release early next year in Australia, so if you want a region B version you already have an import option.

I remember Sentai annoucing HSotD a while back, and I could have sworn they mentioned Blu-ray plans on the time. maybe I dreamed it though.

regardless, I'm glad to hear its still in the works.

Will it be a port of the US release, similar to all the Funimation stuff?

And I'm region free, I just want Manga UK releases for the cheaper price.

I believe David Williams said they would be releasing HOTD on Blu-ray, back at AWA.

I imagine a record would exist online if that was the case. Can anyone find one?
