Default Evangelion: 3.0 Q in Autumn 2012, Final in 2013

Have they ever clarified exactly what is going on with the 4th? At one point I read that 3 and 4 were planned to go out almost together but I don't think I ever saw evidence, and given how long it's been between each I kind of doubt we'd see two together.

So 3.0 is *still* a year away. And the BD won't be out until 2013. And then another 2-3 years for the last movie probably.

The anime Studio Khara confirmed on New Year's Day that Evangelion Shin Gekijō-ban: ?, the fourth and final film in Hideaki Anno and Khara's remake of Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series, will open in Japan in 2013. The anime's official website also announced the English title of the third film: You Can (Not) Redo.

I saw the trailer about half an hour ago and I freaked out like the Evangelion nerd I am. I seriously can't wait.

And no one knows what's going on with the 4th film still. Anno or Khara have not confirmed anything which is kind of the Evangelion way... I guess?

If the final is two films I assume it will be like The End of Evangelion where there was an episode 25 and 26 but they weren't necessarily episodes that's just their title.

Word. How many times can somebody rewatch a single 19-second clip? I think I stand to set some kind of record.

I'm especially encouraged by how much the promotional stuff so far (between this and the recent Newtype cover) seems to be focusing on Asuka. She was the best thing about 2.22 (unsurprisingly, since she's always been the best thing about Eva in general -- though I hasten to add, that does not mean "the only good thing," since Eva is full to bursting with greatness in virtually every aspect). The more she has to do in the next movie, the better.

Well, this really makes me hope the whole "3.0 and FINAL will be released at the same time"-thing still holds true. And I now have a desperate urge to go to Japan next year. Because I got so completely and utterly spoiled on the entirety of 2.0 in the... what was it, eleven months? between the theatrical release and the BluRay that the movie held virtually no surprises for me when I finally got to see it.

And I will hear nothing of how considering going to Japan just to see a movie could be considered a bit too obsessive or anything!!! (Actually seeing how I'm taking a 3-year study of Japanese in University and spending some of that study-time in Japan is entirely possible, going when the next Evangelion-movie comes out would just be like killing two birds with one stone.)

While the Rebuild movies are just nicely put together in general, Asuka's new role in 2.22 singlehandedly renewed my interest in the franchise. Just like it so much better than how the TV series handled the same. Asuka becomes a far more interesting character.

Not sure if that means I prefer Rebuild as a whole over the TV series, but I haven't rewatched the TV series in some years and he last few attempts didn't really get anywhere. So whether Rebuild is "better" or not, it probably is going to be the only version I'd rewatch going forward. Which may be the first time I've ever said that about a condensed retelling vs a TV series.

This wait is agonizingly long, especially since funi likely won't be able to get the film(s) out until 2014.

Personally, I'm a shameless sloppy fanboy of both versions of the character, but I fully support whatever makes her work for you.

As for preferring the new movies over the series, I sure couldn't go there myself, but I do find them a welcome complement to the original show and highly enjoyable in their own right. (Plus, I think it's possible the sequel theory may yet prove out, in which case both iterations are actually just a single big story anyway.)

I was more into Rei when I saw the TV series, but then I was also a teenager with fairly minimal anime experience and she was something I hadn't ever seen before. Eva was also one of those rare (well, moe rare now than back then) shows that I liked more for the plot than for the characters, who I found interesting but generally not overly likable. As intended, but still.

I was into anime for such different reasons then, and was such a different person too... I doubt I could ever watch it today and really remember or understand what it was like back then. So the somewhat less angsty (or angst in smaller bursts) atmosphere of the movies works for me today better than the TV series. Just as back then I would have much preferred the TV series to these movies, I have no doubt.
