Default Spring 2013 - What are you planning to import?

Winter 2013 thread

Guess it's roughly time for one of these. Below is listed potential imports in order of likelihood (not exactly the order of how much I like the shows - subtle difference).

1. Yuyushiki is a lock. One of the damned funniest shows I've ever seen. Impeccable, flawless comedic timing with virtually every single line spoken. It is essentially perfection. I'm putting in a second order for May (gah this comes out earlier than I had thought) in order to import this, so this deal is sealed. (Chance: 1000%)

Beyond that I have some "very likely" titles, but no locks.

2. Aiura is quite likely. It's not actually better than a lot of the shows listed below it, but it is incredibly safe. There's basically no risk of it going off the rails on me. (Chance: 99%)

3. OreImo. is super likely, I'm really liking the second season. It's very flawed in how it handles some characters, but the flaws aren't any different than they were in season one, which I imported. OreImo is one of those shows for which I have a lengthy litany of complaints and criticisms and irritations in my head, but nonetheless can't help but love. (Chance: 95%)

4. Gargantia is my second favorite show right now after Yuyushiki, but the nature of the show makes it difficult to call it a lock. It's the sort of story that could change tone at a moment's notice, and I won't know if I like where it goes until it gets there. But right now it is just sooooooo gooooood. Thankfully with a late July release date, the final episode will be on CR before I even need to place my July order, so I don't have to decide until it's over. (Chance: 85%)

Those are the front-runners by a good margin.

5. Shingeki is totally import-worthy at the moment, but the caveat about Gargantia applies to this show tenfold. There are myriad ways this kind of show could screw up, both catastrophically and instantly. It's also a July release but since it's two cour so I only get to see about half before deciding, plus a couple more eps after that before it ships. Hopefully it doesn't take a bad turn on me after that. (Chance: 70%)

6. Maou-sama is one cour, reasonably light-hearted, and has Chiho. The only reason it's not ranked higher is because it's going to take some very delicate, intelligent writing to handle Maou's two diametrically opposed sides in an acceptable way. (Chance: 60%)

7. Henneko is certainly cute enough but with so many shows above it, chances start to drop after #6. Also I'm not sure how well the show will hold up with Azusa's intro arc done. (Chance: 40%)

8. Crime Edge is quite nice, though like Mirai Nikki I have a feeling I'll end up with my limited purchases gravitating towards other shows that I might not end up considering as "good" but "more importable". (Chance: 20%)

9. Leviathan is way funnier than I expected and could be a dark horse but with so much else in the running I can't see it realistically happening. But I've at least given importing it a faint, passing thought, which I have not for any of the shows below it. (Chance: 5%)

There are other good shows this season but none are in the running now or likely to get there unless they get much better and some of the shows ahead of them commit suicide.

Railgun S.
That is all. BDs, boxes, radio CDs, soundtracks. What more can I ask for?

Yuyushiki (blind import 'cause I usually like the same stuff something does)
OreImo2 ('cause it's OreImo)
Red Data Girl ('cause it's P.A. Works)
Gargantia ('cause it's something else than what I've been importing for the past 8 months)

Everything I'm interested in are sequel series' that I kinda need to have seen the previous stuff for which I haven't really done for either.

Therefore nothing unless I manage to get all these things really fast (which is pretty unlikely right now imo):

Oreimo S1 BDBox
Index BDBox
Railgun BDBox
and assuming it happens, Index II BDBox

I think it's pretty obvious what my likely imports would've been otherwise

Summer's already looking to be much better/worse for me from what I can remember off the top of my head though

My suggestion would be to prioritize Railgun S then. The first season of Railgun had a LE BD go out of print/stock during airing (v3), so keep that in mind as you contemplate your purchases.

No I think the clear answer based on his comment is to prioritize Yuyushiki.

BECAUSE EVERYONE SHOULD.

Well, I will finally be able to start watching shows from Spring 2013 next weekend. Now, I would be curious to know, where would you rank this show compare to show of the same genre. (Yuru Yuri, Hidamari Sketch...)

It's more gag-oriented than a Hidamari Sketch or K-ON!, so it's more comparable to Yuru Yuri, Lucky Star, A-Channel, GJ-bu. Even Nichijou in a way, but much less eclectic. I'd put it above GJ-bu/A-Channel, close to Yuru Yuri, below Lucky Star.

But it's hard to compare because part of what I really liked about Yuru Yuri was all the character pairings and some of the surprisingly good emotional content. Yuyushiki doesn't really have that quite yet (only 3 eps in) but it's every bit as good as Yuru Yuri's funniest jokes and maybe better. Yuyushiki is wonderfully yuririffic in a good-lord-it's-virtually-canon but still-a-not-serious-yuri-romance way that Yuru Yuri is (like nearly all yuri anime), but just with a lot less characters so a lot less opportunities for cute pairings. For the most part it's just Yuzuko and Yukari being totally in love with Yui. Which is amazing, though not quite HimaSaki or KyouYui or KyouAya or ChinaAkari.

Looks like a light season for me, one near lock and two very likely. That's it.

1. Gargantia 99%, 1% chance they could screw it up. Already preodered all 3 BD boxes.
2. Muromi-san 90%, 10% chance I decide it isn't rewatchable enough. Also, not many extras is a minus but it is cheap and just 3 discs so... Already got OP CD+DVD, preordered 3 BDs.
3. Yuyushiki 80%, there is a chance it will just be too random for the last episodes but it is really funny, the show has really grown on me and it is really rewatchable funny so far, just love the Japanese humor. Recently added preorders.
4. Maou-sama 45%, not sure it is rewatchable. Have to watch it on Funimation which usually turns me off shows.
5. Shingeki no Kyojin 30%, not sure I'll want to watch it again, once the plot is revealed. Noticing animation problems already.
6. Red Data Girl 5%. Had this preordered but cancelled it even though I had until end of June to cancel it. Again, Funimation doesn't help but the first 4 episodes just aren't grabbing me in the right way to make me want to buy it. Just too slow. It is reminding me a bit of Another but not as good and I didn't end up buying Another so...

Well, just added the show to my wishlist. Too bad I already made my May order. Oh well, having two volumes in June will double the fun! Your last comment just seal the deal for me. This comment, with the comments in the General Anime Discussion thread. Finally, the fact that this show won't sell a ton of copies, just is another reason why this show is a lock for me even before watching the first episode.

So it seems, I already have 2 locks for Spring 2013, before watching a single episode...

1. Yuyushiki
2. OreImo.

I don't think I will import more this season.
