Today is the "flying get day" for titles with release date of Jan 25th. Most titles that were released on Jan 23rd are pushed out from the ranking, but some stay on, like SAO, Gintama but also noticeably Dog Days and Hidamari.
For the new batch of titles, Library War of course performed strongly. And unsurprisingly Hyouka and Psycho-Pass also do well. It is interesting to see Shinsekai Yori shows up but it may not indicate anything more than the few hundreds of copies vol.2 sold. BD xx xx *2 Library War: Kakumei no Tsubasa - RE xx xx *3 Hyouka v8 xx xx *5 Psycho-Pass v2 *1 *1 *6 SAO v4 xx xx *7 Total Eclipse v5 xx xx *8 Sakura Taisen: Katsudoushashin xx xx 11 Sora no Otoshimono Forte BD Box *6 *3 14 Dog Days2 v5 xx xx 17 Library War: Kakumei no Tsubasa - LE (BD+DVD set ) *3 *5 18 Hidamari4 v2 xx xx 20 Shinsekai Yori v3 *4 *8 -- Utena BD Box v1 14 *9 -- Natsuiro Kiseki v7 *5 10 -- Joshiraku v4 *9 12 -- Shinki v2 15 14 -- RoboNo v1 --- 15 -- Zetsuen v1 11 16 -- Kokoro Connect v4 20 20 -- KoiChoco v5 10 -- -- Star Driver BD Box 13 -- -- BokuH v5 16 -- -- TonaKai v3 17 -- -- Sengoku Collection v12 18 -- -- Sengoku Collection v11 DVD *2 *2 *6 Gintama Yorinuki Gintama-san On Theater 2D Shinsengumi Douran-hen xx xx *8 Library War: Kakumei no Tsubasa xx xx *9 Psycho-Pass v2 xx xx 11 Hyouka v8 xx xx 13 Shirokuma Cafe v7 *5 *3 14 SAO v4 xx xx 16 Smile PreCure v8 xx xx 18 Magic Kaito v4 xx xx 23 Jewel Pet Sweets Dance Princess/Onegai My Melody Tomo & Ai Movie xx xx 29 Total Eclipse v5 19 11-- Dog Day2 v5 *9 19 -- Bleach - Shinigami Daikou Shoushitsu hen v6 23 26 -- Hidamari4 v2 10 -- -- Azazel-san - web radio 13 -- -- Sengoku Collection v11 14 -- -- Sengoku Collection v12 24 -- -- Hyakunin Isshu Uta-koi v5 28 -- -- Joshiraku v4 29 -- -- Shinki v2 30 -- -- Zetsuen v1 Something I only notice now: Amazon Stalker does not have data for Magic Kaito v4 (it has only v1-v2) or Smile PreCure v8 (it has only v2-v4) - so they are not on Something's list of this week's release posted earlier. Apparently Amazon Stalker indeed can miss out titles. I wonder whether the earlier volumes of Magic Kaito and Smile PreCure are there because they got inquiry from readers (like when I reported AKB0048 is missing). It does not seem to be due to Amazon's categorization because both vol.1 and vol.4 of Magic Kaito are categorized the same way (DVD-Anime) but vol.1 is on Amazon Stalker but vol.4 is not. Such a slow period for Winter shows right now. Only Vividpan is in the top 100 right now. Everything else has been sagging quite a bit. and even Vivipan is lower than I'd expect for having aired an episode recently.
Maoyuu has been in free-fall, going from top 20 to approaching 300 over five days. Tamakoma only peaked at 113 (compared to 72 last week) despite the amazing Shiori episode and is already down around 170, probably set to bottom out at 300 mid-week. Minami-ke is hanging out around 200. Even Love Live is back in triple digits and Haganai is 130. I guess all the early buyers have already made their decisions and everyone else is waiting until closer to release date. Vivipan, Maoyuu, Love Live and Haganai did well in the initial buying period. Minami-ke and Tamakoma did okayish, but expectations were higher for the latter than the former so it's good news for Minami-ke and not so good for Tamakoma. Also Kotoura-san has one of the highest Amazon point to Nico preorder ratios I've seen - 371pts but 109 Nico preorders. I know it streams on Nico but that's quite a lot Though as it gets more Amazon points htat ratio will decline.

Yea it's a pretty odd week.
I expected atleast Vividred to climb back into the teens or atleast the 20's with the recent ep. I was watching it all yesterday and the rank didn't really move much. Then again, the ep felt a bit rushed to me so that might have effected it. What did the viewers in 2ch think? For Tamako I guess people are still waiting to see how it goes. I was surprised it didn't break 100 after what I thought was the best ep yet. Maybe the imouto ep next week will do it. Last edited by something : 01-25-2013 at 12:42 PM. |

I actually expected preorders to slow down around this point, but some shows dropped more than what I thought (expecially Maoyuu).
At least Tamako has all the six volumes in the first 16 HMV ranks, and Vividred's v1 ranked #4 there. Kotoura is also performing nicely on Stalker. Last edited by something : 01-25-2013 at 12:42 PM. |

Heh, at this rate, Totoro will overtake Howl's Moving Castle sometime in a year or 2 and become the 2nd best-selling Ghibli DVD behind Spirited Away. That 578 weeks in the charts still blows my mind :D

The only really universally popular character in Tamakoma is Ann (Anko) the imouto, so that may indeed help. That said, what I see is that despite (perhaps because of) how mainstream Tamakoma is (really, if the bird is not so hard to film, Tamakoma can make a very good life-action heartful slice-of-life comedy about school girls and their neighborhood - the moe level and the range of characters are just right) its midnight broadcast time slot limits the kind of audience it can reach, and the midnight anime audience do not naturally gravitate towards such anime that is so mainstream that it does not stand out for them (in midnight anime's sense). Let's examine some of the titles of this season (for simplicity's sake, only the numbers for the BD sales are used here) Vivipan did not have a final point prediction back on Jan 15th but it was widely tipped to be the top selling show of this season. So far it is proving its power but it also seems to be losing momentum as time goes by. When the final point prediction first came out it was well above 16k and now it came down to just 13k. Its medium ranking may be still at #16 but it was stuck at around #50 before ep.3 was aired and even after ep.3 its ranking still only came to around #40. Earlier in this post I raised the observation by quite many in 2ch that perhaps MaoYuu is not as strong as it initially looked. At that time its ranking in Amazon had just started to fall in more noticeable manner. However since then the drop has accelerated. The theory by 2ch that perhaps MaoYuu was just lucky to have a longer "early adopter" boost may just prove to be true after all. At the moment, its final prediction point is 7k compared to 8k on Jan 19th, quite a substantial drop, and will continue to go down if its ranking does not improve. Love Live is another title that sees the final prediction drops significantly, from 10.6k on Jan 19th to (gasp)7.4k now. But then its vol.2 has been pretty stable with 4.7k as the final prediction. Tamakoma was last seen above #100 back on Jan 19th and its final prediction used to be near 5k but now it is a mere 3.8k. Kagura had a final prediction points of 4k back on Jan 19th but now it has just 2.7k. On the other hand, Haganai and Minami-ke have proved stable: 5.5k and 4.4k are very close to where they were back on Jan 19th. Same for PuchiMasu's 2.2k final prediction points. The only real beneficiaries of the ongoing season seems to be the weaker shows: Kotoura-san shows the biggest boost, from 1.4k to the present 2.8k for final prediction points. If it sustains its current ranking (which is close to Tomakoma and below MaoYuu, Haganai, Love Live and ViviPan) in future weeks, it will easily pass the Manabi-Line and perhaps even reaches the 4k level. And other weak shows that show improvement in final prediction points include OreShura 1.5k -> 2k Mondaiji 0.6k -> 1.2k GJ-bu 0.5k -> 1k However D.C.III has weakened: 2k -> 1.3k But anyway all these numbers may be too small to mean much as a measure of sales performance. With all (or almost all) the titles for the coming Spring Season having been announced, fans are now eagerly looking forward to it as this is going to be a season of "battle of the titans", something that has not been seen for a while - we have OreImo 2nd, Railgun 2nd, Uta-Prince 2nd and also a bunch of strong franchises or appealing originals. Some fans now claim they are saving their resources for the Spring Season. If this thinking becomes widespread, one can only expect the sales performance for this Winter Season to become even more anemic. Last edited by symbv : 01-26-2013 at 09:59 AM. |
