Default GirlPan v1 rears its head again

Today's Daily Ranking lists were posted only in temp files and never re-posted (or I could not find the re-posts) but there is one important piece of information:

GirlPan vol.1 makes the list again, and it is in a very high position: No.3 in BD list !!

Given today's numbers are for the sales of BDs with official release date of Jan 25th like Hyouka, Library War, Psycho-Pass or Total Eclipse (not to say the SAO which is always near the top every day), its #3 position says something.

From the reports by fans in 2ch, at least part of yesterday's sales are from Amazon, which is now delivering orders placed back on 2012 Dec 22nd or the few days afterwards.

When I see stupid posts like this I end up wanting Vividred to sell even though the show isn't to my tastes. Your preference in anime is not some holy golden standard everyone must follow else they be deemed tasteless fools.

Why such hate? Why the attempt to put your standard onto others' preference? It is not as if ViviPan is so ugly so hideous so badly made that it deserves an urge of violence against its fans. If you don't like a show, just stay away. Really no need to sound so upset. As I said before, the production value and technical aspects of this anime are top-notched. It is also clear about what it tries to sell, and moe and the bottom are just some of the appeals it wrote in but it is more than that. It does not try to please everybody and so if you never count yourself as a fan of this kind of genre, perhaps it is wise just to forget about it. Admittedly, the screenplay may be weak and the pacing is forced by its short 1-cour length, but I deem it to be eye-catching and entertaining. Whether I will buy it is another question, although I won't say I'll never buy it.

Since we are talking about ViviPan, let me share some new information. There has just been an interview with the director in an anime magazine. In it he said that Ep.5 will be a major turning point and the focus and mood will change quite a bit (but he also maintains that cuteness and eye-catchiness will not be sacrificed). Let's see how it goes.

This sort of nasty attitude might be considered normal at other anime forums (MAL, ANN, whatever), but you aren't going to last long at all here posting like this. We prefer to act like grown-ups around here. Consider that a warning.

Pretty unfavorable reactions from both Osaka region and Tokyo region regarding ep.3. The rushed pacing is one reason (docking so soon? etc) but one main reason is that the Green character is not popular and also many judged the seiyuu voicing the character to be subpar in performance. Apparently fans in 2ch regard the Yellow character with the direct opposite view - so a lot of expectation is set for the coming episode where Yellow should start to make her appearance.
I see. I never really thought about the voice acting, but now that I look back at it, it was pretty subpar. I have a feeling next ep will also feel a bit rushed though after what was seen in ep 3, going by the fact that the red character can just hand out keys to those that ask and a character with anthrophobia ( Going by the character page in MAL ) will be fighting giant aliens at the end of the ep ( If the pacing is the same )

Going by what you said in a later post, I'm curious what they'll do at ep 5 onwards. Seems they just want to get the character introductions out the way as quickly as possible.

The only really universally popular character in Tamakoma is Ann (Anko) the imouto, so that may indeed help. That said, what I see is that despite (perhaps because of) how mainstream Tamakoma is (really, if the bird is not so hard to film, Tamakoma can make a very good life-action heartful slice-of-life comedy about school girls and their neighborhood - the moe level and the range of characters are just right) its midnight broadcast time slot limits the kind of audience it can reach, and the midnight anime audience do not naturally gravitate towards such anime that is so mainstream that it does not stand out for them (in midnight anime's sense).
I was under the impression that its time slot is actually the kind of audience it's trying to reach.

Also, what do you mean by mainstream? I didn't know midnight anime could be considered mainstream. Then again, you have shows like K-ON and SAO that the midnight audience seemed to love ( Unless those two didn't air at midnight - I don't know the airing times =/ ) Are you saying the midnight audience don't usually care for shows that the majority are watching? Wouldn't all the top shows be mainstream then?

I still haven't seen Vividred Operation 3 as I am waiting for 1080p on Crunchyroll but I sure hope they don't mess it up. Don't make me cancel my preorder...

After three episodes and three manga volumes of Kotoura-san it is a huge favorite of mine and both the BD and next volume of manga are a total lock for me. Not sure anything else in winter is a lock. Vividred Operation was a lock and I will judge for myself but not having the source material makes it less certain while I know and like where Kotoura - san is going.

Love Live is another title that sees the final prediction drops significantly, from 10.6k on Jan 19th to (gasp)7.4k now. But then its vol.2 has been pretty stable with 4.7k as the final prediction.

Tamakoma was last seen above #100 back on Jan 19th and its final prediction used to be near 5k but now it is a mere 3.8k.

Kagura had a final prediction points of 4k back on Jan 19th but now it has just 2.7k.

On the other hand, Haganai and Minami-ke have proved stable: 5.5k and 4.4k are very close to where they were back on Jan 19th. Same for PuchiMasu's 2.2k final prediction points.
I have been asked to point out to you that the Final Point Prediction on Stalker is calculated based on performance over the past week, not the entire life of the volume. So it will fluctuate rather wildly and is not considered a particularly useful measurement.

No, I doubt Tamako Market is intended to be mainstream. It seems very unlikely that its anything like Chihayafuru (targeted to a broad audience but stuck with a late night slot against its will), and late night anime viewers were intended as the audience from the start. I think what symbv is trying to say is that even given that, it's the sort of show that doesn't contain any "overly-otaku-ish" elements that would be likely to turn off a non-otaku viewer. There's no fanservice, there's no heavy otaku in-jokes, there's no violence, there's just a pretty straightforward, heartwarming story about life in a shopping district, with a bit of a fantastical twist. As he notes, this premise could probably be be passed off as a live action drama. So a more mainstream audience might enjoy it if they watched it, but it'd be more a bonus than the core expectation.

Where things get more speculative is in debating whether its middling sales performance (relative to expectations that it would be #2 of the season I mean, it's still unlikely to sell poorly in an objective sense) is a result of reducing "overly-otaku-ish" elements, thus turning off otaku who only care about fanservice and otaku humor and ::whatever::.

I can't say I buy the argument. It's not significantly more or less mainstream-friendly to me than K-ON! (which we know gained acceptance well beyond 20-something male late-night anime viewership), or Hyouka for a more recent example. And to say "lack of sexual fanservice" and "KyoAni show" is to be rather redundant. Not to mention it is still very likely to sell better than the majority of other (much more otaku-centric) shows this season, so there are quite a few other variables in play obviously.
