How many discs are there in the new Tenchi Universe set? I hope it isn't 8 discs like the original release.

What's the problem with having 8 single-layer DVDs? If Funimation re-encodes the discs, it'll just end up being on 4 double-layer DVDs anyhow. Knowing how they do things, I'm sure there won't be any positive change regarding how much video bitrate each episode is allotted.

I wonder if they sourced new masters for these? I have the US CAV LD sets (which cost me $85each at the time!) and eventually "upgraded" to the DVDs. I remember the DVDs looking pretty bad but they are buried in one of my millions of boxes so I cannot compare them to the new Japanese release.

I bought the new cheap and nasty Rondo Robe Selection version of Tenchi TV. I only popped in the first disc to see how it looks and although it looks nice, it is still composite. With all the re-releases the Tenchi series has received, one would think that Geneon could have come up with a new component print master after all these years. Then again, this is the same company that released Tenchi in Love! and Manatsu no Eve 5 or 6 times in letterboxed format.
