FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES
“K-ON! THE MOVIE”

HOUSTON, January 23, 2013 — It’s time for road trip with Sentai Filmworks’ newest acquisition: K-ON! The Movie. This theatrical follow-up to the ultra-popular TV series features work from K-ON! veterans Naoko Yamada (Director), Reiko Yoshida (Screenplay), Yukiko Horiguchi (Character Designs) and Hajime Hyakkoku (Music).

Graduation time is finally here, but the girls of the Sakuragaoka Girl's High Light Music Club aren’t going to let the end of high school be the end of all they’ve built together. First, though, they have to keep a promise to take a trip together, and like everything else they do, they’re not doing it halfway. So it’s time to hop on the bus - the double-decker bus that is - and go around the world as the band heads for the birthplace of the British Invasion: the United Kingdom! And on the way they’re going to have to solve that one last big puzzle that’s been vexing them: what to get for their underclassman rhythm guitarist Azusa, who will be taking over the club once they don their caps and gowns and leave Sakuragaoka for the last time. Get ready for a Magical Musical Tour as the whole gang takes in the sights and sounds of London and prepares for one last amazing encore in the climatic finale of K-ON! THE MOVIE!

K-ON! The Movie will be available soon through select digital outlets and on bilingual DVD & BD featuring an English dub from Bangzoom! Entertainment and extensive extras.

Obvious but great. Hopefully I'll have the second season by the time they release it, so I can get the Blu-ray pretty soon after that point.

Now I wonder how long it will take for them to get season 1.

Awesome. I was wondering how long it would take for Sentai to license the K-ON! Movie. I knew it was only a matter of time

I thought they would announce acquisition of the movie at Anime Expo - season 1 and the movie as their blockbuster, headline making announcement.

I finally figured out why I dislike the subtitle scripts in seasons 1 and 2. What I liked from earlier Bandai releases is that they had distinct scripts for subtitles and the dub. The subtitle scripts wer more faithfuly translated to the Japanese script, and the English audio script was massaged to match the syllable count.

For the K-on! movie, I would like for Sentai to hire their own translator for the subs, and let Bang Zoom make their own translation for the English audio. First , the subtitles would be more faithful to the original Japanese. Second, the subtitles could flash cultural notes on screen, similar to other Sentai releases. Third, they could translate Yui's T-shirts.

Well if they're announcing this now odds are good we'll see it in the May 2013 solicitations.

Well, if ADV can produce a quality BD, with great a/v and decent extras, I'll consider double-dipping. I'll have to go and look at my Japanese Blu-ray to see what extras are theoretically (but unlikely) possible...

I don't really think Sentai goes out of their way to mention extras in a press release that often (if ever...). They probably got a decent amount more than creditless themes if they say "extensive extras". Of course, their use of "extensive" will likely be debated if it doesn't have every single on-disc extra the Japanese release got, but I don't expect nothing either...

Now I can die happy.
OK, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but this definitely does make me happy.
I hope that all of the actors from the TV series are available for the dub.
But no matter what happens with the dub, or the extras, this is an instant buy for me as soon as it is available.
