2. Amazon.com's Share the Love FAQ

In a small way this helps out AnimeOnDVD in the maintenance costs of running the website. ========= Amazon.com FAQ ======= Q. I keeps getting this "Amazon Timeout" Error everytime when I tried to send the Discount, what is going on? A. Most likely you have overloaded the secure server at that time. Don't worry all your spams are sent out to people once the button is clicked. You just won't see the confirmation page. If you really want see the confirmation, just replace the "https" with "http" and you will see the page again. Q. How do I avoid the "Amazon Timeout" Error which can lead to my STL List being unaccessable? A. Limit the number of "Amazon Friends" you have to 250 or less. For more then 250 friends create a new amazon account and STL list. If your STL account already is stuck in a "Amazon Timeout loop" you'll need to create another amazon account. Creating another account takes less then 3 minutes and you'll just need another email address (i.e. yahoo or hotmail). Q. Why is my STL price not showing up in the shopping cart? A. Amazon seems to have some problems with their system. Just delete the item and try again. If there is absoutely no time left and you need to order the item now, then order the item and E-mail Amazon to have them manually apply the discount for you. We don't know what happens to the person who gives you the Discount. Q. My coupon is gone after I delete or combine the Item. A. The coupon has expired, if the coupon expired and you delete/combine or did anything to the order, the coupon will be gone. You have a pretty good chance to get that coupon back if you E-mail Amazon afterwards. Q. How can I make some of the Returned E-mail NOT show up in my INBOX. A. There are a couple of ways you can do it: 1) Block Mail-Daemon@Amazon.com 2) Set a Filter to delete all Messages that has "Undeliverable or Returned E-mail" in the Subject header Q. What is Amazon's Phone Number for Canada and USA? A. 1-800-201-7575 Q. Where Can I request a Title to get Amazon listed. A. Go to http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/su...299358-1448933 ================== Share The Love FAQ ===================== Q: What is SHARE THE LOVE? A: "Share The Love" is a program Amazon.com offers that allows friends to send 10% discounts on videos and books they have purchased. The way it works is that first you give your email address to your friend(s) who would then add you to their 'buddy list' on Amazon.com. Then whenever they purchase something on Amazon.com, a 10% discount towards that item is automatically sent to you. You have 7 days to use that discount. When you make a purchase the person who sent the discount receives a credit which they can apply to future purchases. Everyone wins! Q: What is the purpose of this list? A: This list is here on the main premise that if we add LOTS of names to each other's buddy lists, there will be a lot of discounts offered between each other, with almost any release anyone could possibily want having a STL offer on it. Strength in numbers. Q: Why would I want to be on this list? A: If you are a frequent shopper at Amazon.com and preorder a lot of items from there, then this list is definitely for you. Please note that most of the discounts offered here are usually preorders. If you're looking for discounts on a video that has been out for a while, don't hold your breath. Even with STL AND coupons, non-preorder videos through Amazon are at rip-off prices. You'd do better to try Bestprices But for preorders, we're your best shot, especially if you life in California (no tax through Amazon!). Q: Why wouldn't I want to be on this list? A: The drawback is that you will receive SPAM from Amazon, and lots of it. However, most of it can be easily filtered if you are a user of Microsoft's Outlook Express, so that's not a minor problem. Also, it is not too difficult to remove yourself from the STL program completely, should you decide to cancel. Q: How do I put my name on this list? A: Simply post your email address into this thread and say "Add me to the list", or something to that effect, just say something that makes it clear that you want to be added to the list, otherwise your email address will be ignored. Also note: People who post messages begging for STL on a certain item and also post their email address in the same message will be ignored, as I am assuming that you are posting your email specifically and only to receive that item. Example of such message: "I need STL for the Evangelion boxset! myname@myisp.com". Also, please take heed of this important note: To remain a participant of this list, you MUST maintain a valid email address and ALL AUTO-RESPONDERS MUST BE TURNED OFF. Q: How often is the list updated? A: I try to update the list on a daily basis whenever I see an "Add Me" or "Delete Me" post. The thread is retired at the end of the month and started clean for the next month. Q: Are there other STL lists? A: If this list isn't enough for you, you may also sign up on DVDtalk.com's STL list at Dvdtalk The emails on that list are divided by category and preference, and there is a group called "ALL Anime titles". Q: I just posted my email address to the list. Now what? A: Now you get to wait. Eventually you'll slowly start seeing emails with discounts and notifications that you've been added to someone's 'buddy list'. What you want to do now is grab all the names on the list in this thread and add them to YOUR buddy list. STL works both ways, y'know. Q: How do I add people to MY 'buddy list'? A: Go to http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/in...cm_hp_ppl_add/ Copy all the email addresses from the STL list and paste them in the box there. If you like, you may also add the email addresses from all the people who requested to be added, in the event that this list hasn't been updated yet. Also, after you purchase something, you are also given the option to add more email addresses, but no more than 50. It's much less hassle to simply add friends before you make your purchase. Q: When I add people to my buddy list, it says there is a 50 name limit. A: See above, and make sure you read it this time. ^v^ For the benefit of those people who wait until just that moment to add people to their list, this list has been broken up into 50 name blocks. If you already have people on your list, this is actually a very good time to add the newest block of names on this list if you don't get around to updating your list often. You may want to make sure everyone else is on your list later on. Q: I'm receiving lots of emails inviting me onto insert-name-here's buddy list. A: This is a good thing. Go to http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/cu...hp_ppl_manage/ and accept! Be sure to do this frequently, at least once a month. The more, the merrier! Q: Is there a list of all the discounts I currently have offered to me? A: Yes there is. It's at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/stl Q: Is it okay for me to place a non-STL order on one account, use the discounts sent to my other Amazon account to order the exact same items, and then cancel the first order? A: Although that would be cool, the answer is no. Amazon got wise to that early on and has an effective method to detect when such orders are placed, and they will cancel BOTH accounts if you do something like that. Q: I'm not receiving STL offers anymore/at all. What's wrong? A: Possibility number 1: You weren't paying attention to the previous question about using two Amazon accounts to get STL discounts and you got caught. Possibility number 2: If your Amazon.com account is new and you haven't placed an order with it yet, you usually won't be allowed to use STL until after your first order. Possibility number 3: As previously explained, Amazon is dilligent about making sure that people aren't offering STL discounts to themselves. However, their methods of tracking such transactions have some major flaws. If you are the indecisive type who cancels orders quite often, you may trigger the ban even if you were playing by the rules. There is no way to appeal being banned from STL, so if this happens to you, you're out of luck. With that in mind, cancel orders at your own risk. Q: What if I decide to quit? A: You could give yourself one final discount using the process above (which would cancel you permanently AND get you a nice discount on something), but if you wanted to do it the legitimate way, first you need to remove your email address from our list here. Post a message in this thread that looks something like this: REMOVE: YourName@YourISP.com. Next, go to http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/cu...hp_ppl_manage/ and delete everyone from your Amazon friends list. There may be other ways of doing this without having to delete everyone from your list, but this is the cleanest way to do it. Q: My email address has been REMOVED from the list. Why? A: Usually a name won't removed unless the email address owner requests it. However, if people report that your email address is invalid and is bouncing back, or if you have a script installed that sends an automated reply whenever an email is sent to you, your email address will be removed until you provide a correct email address that does not bounce back emails. Q: I just placed an Amazon.com order and I received a bunch of 'Message Undeliverable' emails. What gives? A: As you know, when you place an order, Amazon sends discount emails to everyone on your buddy list. However, some of the email addresses on your list may be invalid. Since the reply address on Amazon's emails is YOUR email address, you are the recipient of any error messages. The solution is to remove that email address from your buddy list, and also to post a message here telling us that the email address is invalid so that we can remove it from the main list here. Q: What can and can't this thread be used for? A: You can talk about anything pertaining to Amazon.com in this list. That includes posting coupons, new/early release information, new preorder listing, problems, praise, etc. Don't start flame wars, and don't post other people's email addresses without their permission and everything will be fine. Begging for STL on an item is more or less frowned upon, the only exception is for new preorderable products. If you want STL on non-preorderable items, you'll probably do better to order from Bestprices, as Amazon's prices on old items are horrible. Q: Is my email address going to be used for any other purpose, such as junk mail or SPAM? A: Not if I can help it. Names posted to this list will not be willfully used for any other purpose aside from adding you to an Amazon.com buddy list. However, please be warned that since this is a public list, we have no way of preventing less scrupulous people from using the addresses on this list for unethical purposes, so post at your own risk. If it is discovered that someone is doing so, they will be pursued viciously, and dealt with harshly. I just placed an order and got bounce messages, but none of the bounced emails appear to be on the list. Is there a way that I can look at my list of friends and somehow know which email address goes with which person, so I can remove them?
