Default AoD Advance Review: Princess Tutu Vol. #1

Review

[ QUOTE ]
In Summary:
Princess Tutu is a very simple and easy show to get into for obvious reasons, as most fairy tales are simple in their basic nature but their natures can change with their re-interpretations over the years and into other cultures. This title is something I'd been looking forward to for quite some time and was very happy with it as it's a beautiful little piece that's rich in style and story that keeps a number of anime traditions to it in addition to fairy tale traditions such as there not always being a happy ending for everything and things having a dark edge to them in general. There's a lot of ways this show can go but the opening act of five episodes has not only me hooked but my entire family. It's not often a show is able to do that and it's not often that I have my kids asking to watch it again themselves the next day.

A+/Positive. I won't go into details since I think I've gushed about the show enough in the past , so I'll just repeat that I think this is easily the best anime of recent years. Certain choices could have been made better for the R1 release, but since they're just minor annoyances I still feel mostly Positive about the release.

As many agree, 1/25/04 can't come soon enough. This anime will appeal my inner little girl

*On my list to get when it comes out in the UK*

Reading the review has made it hard for me to do that though

For the curious out there, I've been posting clips from the dub over in the English Track over the past week and will be spreading out a 7-part review on the dub and the release in general over the next few days.

ADV will be conducting a chat on Thursday night with the dub's director (Jin Ho Chung) and the lead VAs for Duck/Princess Tutu (Luci Christian) and Mythos (Jay Hickman). Feel free to join in if you'd like to pass along any comments or questions on this release.

Agreed (though not necessarily about whether or not you've gushed about the show enough)

Well, I will not eliminate the possibility of further gushing in the near future. But I have been going on about it for like two years now.

A+ and positive, of course. (and gets even better from here...) I've had the opportunity to see the series in Japanese a while back, and I've been looking foward to collecting for a while now (even before we knew who had licensed it). Certain things I've learned about ADV's release have annoyed me a bit, but those are all very minor. Hearing that the dub is great more than makes up for that. As my luck would have it, I probably won't get this one until later on next week...

So why stop now? In the end, having the R2 Japanese volume 4, I must say the biggest shame is that we're not getting the beautiful booklets that came with the Japanese release. Considering how good ADVs been with booklets of late, I was still kinda hoping... Ah well! C'est lat vie
