Default DBZ Cell Games Nightmares End video glitch

Anyone else here bought the DBZ Cell Games Nightmares End DVD yet? If so, did your copy have major blockage during the final battle with Cell and Gohan? And I mean MAJOR blockage. As in, the entire sceen gets blocky.

Ah macroblocking, its most like a incompatibility issue. Try it on another player and see if that works. If it does the same thing, then its a defective disc.

Yup. Same here. Alot of blocking during the fights and the glow-scenes. The Gohan-kamehameha shot, especially, iirc.

Ok, at least that is one, but the way it sounds, we may be the only ones experiencing that problem.

No.

We're just the only ones who gives a care about reporting it.

Not that Funimation is gonna do anything about it, anyway.

So, I guess, buyer beware.

Well I cannot confirm on this particular disc yet. It's still in mail on its way to me with it's previous two volumes, once it gets here I'll post again with the results.

Although I can tell you from experience that it might be just the norm unfortunately. Funi discs I find seem to suffer with this, past volumes of DBZ & Yu Yu Ha kusho in particular. Hell Fruits Basket even did it once or twice. Whenever there's a fast action scene or fast action glow flash scene the picture goes blocky. I don't know if it's the their encoding or who they get to authorize the discs or what, but its not a incompatibility issue since I have 9 different dvd players and they do it on all of them. And its not a defective disc issue since it happens on a wide scale number of disc and no amount of exchanging them have ever helped.

Heck I remember one time on a Yu Yu di sc during the dark tournament saga when Hei & the Masked Fighter were trapped in a tent's electric field and the flashing effect was so much macroblocking I thought someone swiped the original dvd with boot one. You think since their only putting 3 episodes per discs they would be the highest quality picture you could get, and yet other companies and put 5 episodes of a series that has just as much action, flash effects, ect. ect. and come up null on macroblocking.

Don't get me wrong I mostly like Funi. They license some damn good shows (Yu Yu being one of my favorites). And I think they do a good job on the English dub side of things with script translation mostly and vocal performance (with DBZ being the only negative on script translation as I only tend to watch the dub once and then sub there after due to it.) I will admit that it has gotten better (much better with certain releases)with as gone time. The latter of the Yu Yu Hakusho volumes in particular (and those were upped to 4 episodes a disc until recently), but not perfect. I found the Cell Games Saga to be pretty fair so far and haven't noticed anything big as of yet. But then again like I said I'm still waiting for the last 3 volumes to arrive.

Well I'm getting slightly off the subject into a rant now, so I'll stop. I'll just say this, until I get my disc I can't say if what your experiencing is the norm from what I've come to expect. And there's still not guarantee that mine will have the same effects your experiencing if it is indeed a defective disc.

You may or may not have a bad disc or incompatibility issue. You won't know until you test the disc on a different player or the incompatibility issue, and/or exchange the disc for another one to see if its defective like joelgundam01 said.

Yeah, but I wouldn't care if it wasn't there for nearly the entire episode.

Well I got my copy yesterday and just finished watching it this morning. Yep there is some serious blocking going on. I counted up to 12 times in the first episode then lost track of the rest, and once in the recap of the second episode. I tried it on all the different players in my household and it happened in the same spots on all players. It does get pretty bad sometimes to a point where you can hardly make out a picture in some frames if you slow it down. None of the previous Cell games disc were as bad as this was.

The first time was when Gohan fell to one knee while firing Kameahmeha whining with the image of Goku in his background. Then most of the instances appear in face close ups of either Gohan or Cell, once each in a face close up of Tien and Yamacha. As bad as it is, while I like to say its a defect I really don't think it is. Reason being is one spot where it happens in episode one is the exact same scene and instant it does it in the recap of episode two. Meaning that it just the disc, and more likely the encoding or something (I'm not up to the technical terms of things) and they're all like that.

It just like I said in my previous post. For some reason Funi's titles suffer from this, some worst than others this being one of the worst, and there's no real need for it. People can defend them all they want by saying that its due from DBZ being fast action & bright lights. Or that its because they cramed an extra 4th episode on the disc (which is what I'm putting money on as their excuse if they ever give one). If other companies can do it right why not them I ask you. It shouldn't happen. Granted it might not be Funi themselves fault, it might be the authoritor or someone elses, but it keeps happening.

Its stuff like this that makes me laugh sometimes at those people who condem others who buy bootlegs *, citing that one of the reasons is a inferior product. People who buy boots are buying crap, but they at least know they're buying crap **. Here's a legitimate R1 product that I paid good hard earned money for and it looks just like a boot on screen. There's no need for it and it shouldn't happen, but what choice do we have. Its either settle with this or go out fork out more money for a region free player and more money to import a region 2 or another region copy, or go without.

I personally am really disappointed by this. Like I said in my previous post this issue was getting better and I haven't noticed a single instant this bad in quite sometime, but I should have known it was too good to be true. Bottom line is we can gripe and complain till days on end but its like treatment said, "Not that Funimation is gonna do anything about it, anyway" . Nuff said.

*Note1: Please do not misinterpret these statements. I no way condone the production, sale, distribution of bootleg or pirated goods. They are wrong, very very wrong and steal food out of the creators and the hard working people who originally made said product. I was just providing a visual mental image of my feelings of frustration and anguish towards the said issue of receiving a poorly legitimate dvd.

**Note2: Nor do I condemn those who buy said products, you know what your doing and the consequences of said actions. It's your life do what you will, just don't cry to me later because I won't say I told you so... I'll just hurt you for your stupidity and annoyance.

Ok, then. We'll try to get this issue to Funi's and everyone else's attention. I'll post a topic in R1-forum to get more exposure about this defective product.

edit/update:

I now made a thread at Studio-Feedback: http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.ph...;o=&fpart=1

and at R1-forum: http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.ph...;o=&fpart=1

for this defect-issue.

That should cover the bases here at AOD. If you guys are members of ANN and other forums, try spread the word about this defect to warn other buyers.
