Default AoD Advance Review: Please Twins Vol. #3

Review

[ QUOTE ]
In Summary:
While Please Twins does get overly dramatic at times, for me it works fine within the way the show is structured and it's to be expected to do this since it is focused on the potential romance of three teenagers. This set of episodes does some of the necessary work at this stage of providing more background and exposition on both some of the primary and secondary characters and it does it well since the relationships all start to change because of it and things are going to be different going into the final episodes. Between the fun with the story and the beautiful visuals, this series continues to be something that's close to a guilty pleasure but I feel no guilt in enjoying it.

The show needs more Tsubaki service. But I found her actual relationship vastly amusing, so I didn't mind the revelation to much.

Slashing my way through my vast backlog, this is one of those anime which is on my "immediate watch" list; just counting the days till this one gets in my paws.

Well, it fell into my eager paws today, and I just finished watching it.

First, the enclosed postcard is, at least for me, the most uber-kawaii of the cards yet, featuring both gals in their yukata for a festival. (Given the appearance of Karen in the St. Paddy's thread, it's somehow appropriate that I saw this today.)

As for the disc, very nice, and I eagerly await volume 4 (episode 13 is the OVA, right?)

I find the mixed up feelings of the girls and Maiku to be real to their situation, but more important, is that I find that this series really seems to be homing in on the the theme of family, making this both universal in appeal, yet very much a distinctly Japanese show.

See, I think most Westerners don't understand the importance of the family in Japanese life, of how central and all-consuming is the importance of the family unit.

Here, we have three people who've formed their own family unit, people who were orphans...yet we know that only two of them are related. For most Americans, that wouldn't matter all that much, but the difference in Japan is on a scale that we don't have in Western life.

I could go on about this (and on, and on, and on, and...well, you get the idea), but it's just one of the things that I really like about this series. Plus, the animation is gorgeous, and the scenary is used to really give this setting a strong sense of place, a place I'd love to visit.
